Good quick breakfast/breakfast on the go

Two mornings a week, DD goes to school for a few hours. We have to be there at 9 a.m. She usually wakes up between 7:30-8:30 and drinks her milk, but she will barely eat any breakfast. The other days of the week, she won't eat breakfast til she gets to my grandmother's house, which is fine then, but she doesn't get a snack at school til about 10. I've tried giving her breakfast at home, giving her breakfast in the car, waking her up earlier, etc. -- I even tried giving her not so good stuff like cheese crackers, so she would at least have SOMETHING! Nothing really seems to work (although, it's only been a few weeks). She's acting fine at school, but she's usually pretty hungry when she gets in the car.
Any ideas of a good breakfast that she might like early or maybe quick in the car? Or should I try giving her a PediaSure instead of milk??

  • Snack trap? Sounds like I need one, my son loves snacking on cereal!! His favorite is frosted mini shredded wheats, it's too funny. He would love it if he were able to eat them in the car <3

  • My LO does a yogurt smoothie. Either in his sippy or in one of the pouches. A granola bar. Cheerios in the snack cup. Apple slices I had him 1 at a time. He also started eating the little cereal boxes. He has learned not to spill them thank goodness and he enjoys picking out his box
  • Oh yes, I forgot to mention that LO loves smoothies as well, and it would be a good thing on the go too!

  • Another vote for smoothie.  I give that to my guy on mornings I'm in a rush.  He'll walk around drinking it for-ever and doesn't need the supervision of cereal or something like that.  But it would also serve for your purposes too.

I make mine with milk, frozen fruit, spinach, and a banana - sometimes yogurt.  No added sugar, so I don't feel guilty about it.

  • We haven't really run into this but I think the smoothies are good options.
Our LO will eat multigrain waffles on occasion. I would think it would travel pretty easily and since they can hold it and take bites, it shouldn't be too messy.
  • We are OTG breakfast eaters.  I usually give DS a granola bar, or a pouch of yogurt or oatmeal.

If you get a snack trap, look for the ones that have a lid - Munchkin has one, and so does Oxo. That way if they don't finish, you can put the lid on and the cereal/snacks won't get stale!
