Back from the MFM (a 3 hour appt btw)

Hello Ladies,

I got in to see my MFM today and had a scan plus a consult. My scan took about an hour and I had a 2 hour consult. Found out that we are having Mono/Di twins. Baby A was measuring at 12w1d and Baby B was measuring at 12w6d. Because they are still within a week, they told me to try not to worry. Right now, it looks like the have equal fluid and after my 16w anatomy scan they'll be monitoring me at the MFM every 2 weeks because they are mono/di.

I'm not really sure at this point what to do. I think i'm going to up my protein intake because I read that it was suggested for TTTS, so I figured it won't hurt anything. Until then, i'm kind of just at a loss.. Not really sure how to feel, what to think, what to do to prepare. I really hate this wait and see game. It's not in my nature to just wait and "see".

Any mono/di twin mommies out there that didn't have TTTS? I have to check to see what the percentage rates of occurance is for it.

Just wanted to say I'm in a similar situation right now. At my 16 week appointment Baby B was measuring a week behind and lower on fluid, though they assured me it was still "enough". We will have another growth and fluid check (well, our full anatomy scan) on Monday. We'll see. The wait and see is a killer on my anxiety levels.

Oh, and I too have just been trying to eat well, get lots of rest, and try to unwind when I feel the anxiety building. It's really all you CAN do to do well by those babies!

I'm almost 27 weeks and no signs of TTTS. I've been drinking protein shakes since about 12 weeks when my dr suggested. Just relax (I know it's hard, I still worry)! And enjoy your pregnancy! Congrats!!

Mine are di-di so I don't necessarily have the TTTS issue, but am following the eating guidelines and have found the Ensure Protein (or Special K, etc) shakes are very helpful. Also watermelon is good for amniotic fluid, apparently.

My cousins mono-di twins, born Wednesday, were TTTS the whole time, they were born at 36 weeks at 5lbs and 4.5lbs and no NICU time needed. In fact they are all going home tomorrow. Sounds like your little guys are super close in size! About the same as my di-dis at that time. No worrying!

i have mono/di also and 16 weeks check up said they were both about the same size. i'll be monitored every 2 weeks also but i plan on drinking protein in the meantime to try to do everything i can to help these babies grow evenly!

Mine were mo/tri and no tttttttts (more Ts in my case, ok, maybe not that many, hmmm) so it's not a foregone conclusion. I understand the stress, but try to relax if possible.

I'm 27 weeks with mono di boys & have no signs of TTTS - being monitored every two weeks is great because you know they are paying close attention to your babies. At one point they were 16% difference size & they don't like it to be over 20% but within two weeks they caught up to each other.

Like others have said try to relax & just take care of yourself - MFM will take good care of you!

I am 25 weeks with no signs of TTS. I am having monodi twins too. I have been monitored every 2 weeks from the beginning. My growth scan shows that there is a 13% size difference. My MFM said that she thinks one will just be smaller than the other. They originally were measuring a week apart.

I had di/di boys, but wanted to throw it out there that greek yogurt has a boatload of protein and IMO, tastes way better than those shakes and bars.

I had mo/di twins that were born a few weeks ago and I didn’t have TTTS. I know much easier said than done, but try not to worry too much. It sounds like you are getting great care and are being monitored closely. I will be thinking of you!

I'm 16w +4d with mono/di twin girls. My doctor told me not to go crazy with the protein but just try and eat healthy. The babies will take what they need from you. So far I have no signs of ttts. Only 10% if twins are diagnosed with that so try not to stress too much. Trust me I know how that is! Congratulations!!!

Mine had a mild ttts that was diagnosed at 22 weeks. All my scans were perfect up until that point. I'm a nurse and was working 12+ hour shifts until then. Once I stopped workand was able to rest and focus on proper nutrition the ttts stabilized but unfortunately one twin suffered poor blood flow and growth restriction. I found the ttts foundation website to be very helpful and informative while not all doom ad gloom. According to them, the hstatistics are about 15% of mo/di pregnancies are effected by ttts. So chances are you won't deal with it but it sounds like your doc has a good plan for monitoring. Welcome to the identicals club!

I'm 33 weeks with mo/di boys. No TTTS for me but we have had some other complications. Make sure you have doctors you trust who monitor you carefully and try not to stress. Unfortunately much is out of your control. Congratulations!

I also have mo/di twins and have not had any issues with TTTS and we are 33 weeks along. Even now there is only a 5% difference in size between the girls. I haven't done anything special, just what my doctors have suggested for any pregnancy, lots of water, several small meals throughout the day. I also make sure and take my prenatal vitamins religiously.

Like others have said, just try not to worry about it. I was pretty freaked out by the prospect of it too but really there isn't much of a way for you to actually be able to effect it, so just do your best to take care of yourself just like you would if it was a singleton or any other pregnancy.

That difference seems normal. Definitely look after your diet. Eat loads. High iron and vitamin c. And rest! Mine r mono di and have always been different but last scan at 36 weeks they were exactly the same. GL. I'm sure u will be ok and I believe the chances r only 10%.

The chances of TTTS is 10%. So try not to worry too much about it. there is really nothing you can do to prevent it unfortunately. my girls were diagnosed at 19w i think it was? We had surgery and everyone came out great. i didn't deliver until 35w6d.
