I heard the name Skander yesterday on a little boy and I really like it. It's not on BTN, has anyone else heard it before?

It's exactly the way my 17 month old pronounces his own name, which is Alexander.

I've heard of it before. The actor who played Edmund in the Narnia movies (I think...maybe it was Peter) is named Edmund.

ETA: Doh. Baby brain. The actor who played Edmund is named Skander.

My husband just had an intern from Germany start at his company, and his name is Skander. Maybe it has some German roots (or it's just a coincidence).

Yeah, when I first saw this I suspected it might be a variation of Alexander in some other language, and as it turns out, Skandar (this spelling) is Alexander in Pashto, which is related to Persian. So I wouldn't side-eye it on someone of Central Asian descent, but I think it's a little out there if you're not and you just randomly hear it and decide you like it.

His name is actually Alexander. His screen/nickname is Skandar. Add me to the list of people who don't care for it.
