I spent so much time bitching and moaning about how rough it was for me to transfer positions from one section of my office to another last week...to, like, anyone who would listen.
Today, a guy at work (who is in a completely different section all together) came over to ask me how I was doing and why my desk had moved. I told him that I was doing a developmental assignment in the Planning section for a while, but it was a giant pain in the ass. He asked what my job assignment was and I told him this:
Basically, my job is doing a bunch of environmental assessments on these beautiful, but highly degraded natural areas - looking at soils, plant communities, fish, macroinvertabrates, etc...and determining a restoration plan to improve said natural area to a higher quality state improving resources for everyone who utilizes it and helping improve habitat for all types of animals and birds....then matching the project with Federal funds and handing it over to construction once I formulated a plan.
He looked me straight in the eye and told it's his dream job...and that he knows so many people that would kill to do what I'm doing. Yikes. I feel like a douchecanoe. Lessoned learned though. I need to be thankful for where I am.
