Iron deficient?

As I've mention a few times on here, a couple months ago, I eliminated wheat from my diet. Obviously with that, iron enriched products like bread.

Since then, I occasionally get kinda lightheaded or dizzy. I went to donate blood a few weeks ago, and she said my levels were borderline. (12.8, I think.) Anyone know if that could be why? I've tried to throw in some more iron rich foods in my diet, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I guess I could get a supplement, but I hate being plugged up.

Anyone dealt with this?

Yes, I think the dizzyness could be related to low iron. My advice is to try to up your intake of iron rich foods and then have yourself tested again. Make yourself smoothies with spinach, strawberries, bananas and OJ everyday. Eat iron rich foods with vitamin C rich foods. Try not to eat calcium when you're eating iron.

And as far as supplements, I'd recommend Floradix if you can get past the taste. It's a liquid herbal supplement and does not plug you up. Very gentle on the stomach.

Good info, thanks. Problem with the smoothies is I have pcos, meaning that'd be too much sugar for me. : / I may look for some recipes that don't have much fruit.

Red meat! :) Need an excuse to have burgers? Well... I guess it'd be a bun-less burger. Steak!?

I wish I liked steak more. I'm a chicken junkie. So unamerican, I know.

  • You can also cook everything in an iron pan and I second the floradix.

    Good idea, thanks.
