What was the first food that you gave LO?

If you've started solids, what did you start with?

My lo will be 5 mo on Thursday, and is showing all of the signs that he is ready for food.  We were going to wait until 6 mo's, but I think that we're ready now.

I have been using https://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/ a lot and I thought that we were going to start with peas due to the low risk of allergies, but this is saying to wait until 6 mo. so I was just wondering what you all started with.

Re: What was the first food that you gave LO?

  • We started with bananas. It seemed to be a pretty common first food. LO didn't like it at first but the second try was a hit

  • Rice cereal, he didn't like it. Oatmeal, which he liked. Applesauce, puréed plum, pear, banana and avocado so far. He's liked everything but rice.
  • Rice cereal...but he didn't like it so avocado..which he has liked so far.
  • I mashed up a ripe banana and mixed it with cereal and breastmilk, huge hit! Going it stick with this for a few more days, then on to sweet potato!

  • Rice cereal (didn't like it)
Squash (after a week, she loved it. She eats 1/2-1 jar per sitting)
Avocado (just started it-she seems ok with it but she's teething so she's not really into eating right now anyway)

  • Oatmeal which she loves then squash and sweet potatoes. Bananas are next.

  • We did avocado first, she was ok with it but didn't get too excited. I think she was just getting used to eating though. Green beans next, didn't go over well. Lol. Squash third, loved that. Sweet potatoes fourth, liked it and was grabbing the spoon. Today we try peas. :)

  • We did banana first and then avocado--she loved both! I have sweet potato, carrots, peas, and green beans ready in the freezer.

  • We went with avocado first tonight and he didn't seem to love it or hate it. He ate some, but spit most of it out. It was funny. I think that we will try bananas next. I have sweet potatoes, green beans and peaches in the freezer. Apparently I love making baby food! I never would have thought that I'd like it, even a few months ago, but I do.
  • We started with sweet potatoes, then wheat cereal, then peas, then applesauce. He didn't like anything until we tried the peas, now he likes them all :)

  • I have given ds2 rice cereal, peas, bananas, and green beans.  I have been more focused on checking for a reaction to the foods rather than getting them to be routine parts of his daily meals so far so I haven't fed him more than 1x per day and I haven't fed him more than 1/3 to 1/4 of a serving at one time yet.
