First IUI: Complete!

Greetings, Bumpies!  I write this post from my sick bed - to my dismay, endless amounts of Emergen-C and cough suppressants have not made me feel better and seeing what a mess I am, I decided to stay home.

I scheduled my IUI this morning at 8 am precisely so I wouldn't have to miss work.  Oh, well.  Anyway, it is done.  The swimmers are floating around in my uterus hunting for a precious egg.  Here's my experience:

The good: 1) I took my Ovidrel shot yesterday and the doctor told me I had high LH levels today so I surged on my own.  He expects that I'll release my egg this afternoon or later this evening.  2) The sperm is motile, strong, and plentiful.  As he injected me he said "Boy, that's a LOT of sperm!" - I take that as a good thing :) even though it just takes one, the more the merrier!  3) My uterus is in great shape. 4) DP was with me and made me laugh and showed me pictures as it was happening.  Love her.

The bad: 1) My cervix is tilted a bit so the doctor had trouble getting the catheter inside me. 2) A student was in the room watching the procedure and the doctor explained everything in detail so I had to hear it, too.

The ugly: Because he was having trouble he told me he needed to make an "adjustment."  He told me I'd feel a bit of discomfort.  Woo!!!  He wrangled my cervix and pulled it forward.  Luckily he managed to get it in position.  I winced a little but it wasn't too bad.  Just really weird.  I then lay still for 15 minutes.  When I got up to get dressed I saw the tools he used.  They looked like meat-flipping tongs with scissor-like holders.  If I'd seen him come at me with those things I'd probably have said "Never mind!!!  DP, it's your turn!!!"

So there you have it.  Looks like timing was good after all.  Still have 2 more vials in storage... maybe I'll get a baby but if not I know I can try, try again :) Now to relax and let it happen.  I'm gonna listen to my Circle + Bloom again.  Hooray!  Glad to have done my first IUI!

  • @Jazibel - I sure hope that's the case :) Would be awesome if this cold did something beneficial for me.  I'm feeling a little better now - gotta take it day by day.  I'm just relieved the IUI is done.
