Horrible rib & back pain! hard to breathe!

Hello, I'm 19 years old, had my 1st child 4 months ago and I have been getting Extreme pain in my rib cage and back. 5 times this has happened and I usually wake up in the middle of the night with the pain and lasts for an hour or more. It feels like a balloon is being blown up right under my rib cage and it is hard to breathe. Please if anyone else has had this happen to them, how long did this go on before it stopped altogether and What did you do about it? This is really scaring me. Thanks!!!

  • Sounds like you should probably go to the doctor.

  • Sounds like gall bladder attacks.  I had them sporadically before birth but they were terrible after birth and I had mine removed at 4weeks PP.  It is actually really common to have them removed shortly after giving birth.

  • I had something similar and it turned out I had dislocated 2 ribs during childbirth. A chiropractor fixed it pretty quickly.
  • I had the same sort of pain and mine ended up being lower esophagus spasms.  I had horrible heartburn and acid issues (tore my esophagus) when I was pg and my doc put me back on prilosec and it helped.  He told me that if the pain is primarily in the middle, its the esophagus, and if it's on the right side it's the gallbladder.  Good luck!

I was thinking gallbladder as well if it is bothering you worst on the right side. But definitely call your doctor!
Not necessarily, Mine was primarily right in the center of my chest.
