Homemade to jarred

Yesterday, DS had jarred Gerber baby food for the first time ever. I've had him on solids since for the past month and a half but I've made everything myself up until now. I'm going on vacation for a week and couldn't make enough food to take so I'm having to supplement with some jarred food. I wanted to try it and see his reaction. Well, he hated it and spit most of it up. Now I'm nervous about giving it to him. Thoughts?

  • Can you just do the 'easy to travel' foods? Buy a banana and mash it with a fork? You could also make your own food and put it in jars and freeze those to take along...

  • actually funny thing, i have always done a mix of make my own and jarred, but i gave my son gerber organic peas and he had a reaction! then when i tried them again i did earths best and he was totally fine. maybe try a differnet brand? or just do jarred fruits which he will probably like?
  • Are yours runnier? If so add some formula or bm.or if yours are thicker, add some cereal.
  • I have the opposite problem. LO loves the jars but will turn her nose up at the stuff i make. Im trying not to take it personal! Lol Maybe you could try a few different kinds and see if LO likes them better.

DD1 was the exact same way. Wouldn't touch a thing I made but would eat store bought. But only the Plum Organics brand. Picky little punk :).

  • It could be a texture thing. We haven't started on food yet, but in my experience the jarred stuff is smoother than I can make it. Maybe he likes the texture of the homemade stuff. I agree with pp about doing the easy, no cook foods while on vacation. Bananas or avocado. Or bake and mash a sweet potato. Good luck!

That was how DD1 was, too. I found that out after I spent an entire day making like 6 different kinds of purees and giving myself all sorts of mom kudo points. She would eat a little bit of the carrots I made, everything else she acted like I was trying to poison her. Sigh.

Did you look at the ingredients?  Gerber Organic contains tuna oil and gelatin, while Earth's Best doesn't.  He may have a fish allergy.
