DC moms

Just wondering what u send in for lunch ? M has cereal because she doesn't eat breakfast but I'd like some easy ideas for when the time comes. I'm ok with jars.

  • I send a fruit and then a yogurt for PM snack.

DC provides lunch though, so now that she's moved up from the infant room, she gets lunch.  Right now she just plays with it, but I thought it would be good for her to try it and get used to the concept of it.

  • Our daycare provides meals which I love. Harp eats whatever is on the menu for the day, minus hotdogs. On those days, I'll bring pasta pickups for her. We are totally on table food at this point.

  • Do you do BLW? If so, I can leave some suggestions for you.

  • I don't technically do BLW u don't think. You mean like giving real food not cut up? M gags a lot which freaks me out but I'm open to suggestions! Thanks
  • @shella923 just didn't know if you only give her jar/purees or if you give her any type of table food. If you give her table food, I can list some suggestions for you that I send in for O to her DC.

  • We are starting to transition from sending purees with him to having him eat what is on the menu at DC. It has been a bit of a trial for the past few weeks, but he is doing great. Now I just send one pouch of some kind of fruit in case he needs it. Other than that, he eats what the big kids eat :)

  • I send all of his food to his babysitter's house because I'm a control freak ;-)  LO is between full-on table food and purees, so I send both for now.

Today, I sent a puree of chicken, quinoa, and carrots (very chunky puree) and a puree of mango and papaya.  I also sent diced turkey and diced strawberries for his table food.  Sometimes he'll have his blueberry greek yogurt from breakfast if he didn't already finish it.
  • @AmberEA14 give both puree and table food (cut up small) at home so bring it! :)
  • I send her two meals/snacks a day.

The first is usually yogurt and a fruit. I've been doing blueberries, watermelon (or any kind of melon but watermelon is a good source of iron), pears, grapes (cut in half), banana, etc. As I'm typing this I'm realizing that the fruit list is long. I have given her just about every kind of fruit. Since you are scared of gagging, just insert fruit that you feel comfortable with. O's new fav is blueberries and it helps her work on her pincer grip and fine motor skills.

If I'm in a pinch and haven't had a chance to run to the grocery store, I keep a box of french toast sticks on hand and send a couple of pieces. These are the ones: https://www.theglutenfreeshoppe.com/default/van-s-gluten-free-french-toast-sticks.html. They are all natural and gluten free but they do contain sugar so I just use those for emergencies.

The 2nd is usually some type of meat: all natural low sodium turkey or boiled chicken. I usually pair cheese (just have to be careful of the salt in the cheese) or a veggie with the meat. I've done squash and zucchini spears, broccoli, green beans. Lately I've added green peas to the mix because again, helps her fine motor skills. She is obsessed with peas. I really just think she realized that she can now pick up objects with her fingers and likes to do it because any food that allows her to do that, she's obsessed with.

I need to figure out some more meats to add to the mix. I've been guilty of being lazy in the food prep department lately. We've just been so busy on the weekends that I'm too tired by the time Sunday afternoon rolls around.

If I'm in a pinch for lunch then I'll send in more fruit to go with her meat. if I have to do that then I don't send in fruit to go with her yogurt and just send more yogurt. By the way, I use coconut milk or Greek yogurt- plain. Oh or sometimes it's cheese and fruit if I don't have any meat.

I've been wanting to do some roasted sweet potato spears but haven't gotten my butt in gear on Sundays to make them for the week (well, they only a last a few days but you get what I mean). I have boiled some of the small red potatoes and cut them in 4ths and she liked those.

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

  • I sent yogurt or tofu, and a fruit, and a veggie.  (I make my own purees)

Today it was tofu, peas, and banana.  Yesterday it was yogurt, peaches, and cauliflower.

LO eats finger/table food at home, but I'll send purees to daycare as long as LO will accept them.

  • @AmberEA14 Thank you! WHere do you buy those french toast sticks? Thanks everyone! Am copying and pasting on a document.
  • @shella923 bought them at Kroger (grocery store). They are in the "health food" section in the freezer. If Kroger has them then I'd imagine just about any grocery store would. Although our Kroger has tried to imitate a Whole Foods so they may have a little larger health food section than some others.
