Falling

Poor baby... Was nursing E in bed this morning like every morning, and he rolled off. He started crying instantly. I picked him up, cuddled and kissed him of course, then kept him awake. He hit his head pretty good so after a while i called the clinic just to find out what i should be looking for if he hurt himself.

He is fine, of course, but now I'm concerned that the clinic might call child services. Do i need to be worried?

  • Oh no!!! I hope he is ok : (  I am sure he will be fine. I woudn't worry about child services! You called them not someone calling on you ; )  Accidents happen. I carried my sleeping kid and mis-judged walking through the doorway wrong and bumped his head on door frame : (  You feel awful but it wasn't intentional. Don't worry mama

  • No, I wouldn't worry about that. Accidents happen. Kids get hurt. I don't think they look into anything unless someone else reports you or he's in there a lot with injuries.

That part I think is key. When my mom was watching Dd a couple of months ago she tripped going up the step from our dining room to the kitchen and both she and DD took a bit of a tumble. At the time my mom was absolutely convinced DD had hit her head really hard [in retrospect my mom realized that the loud crack she had heard was likely her own elbow hitting the floor, since DD didnt have a mark on her but my mom's elbow still hurts sometimes!] and we wound up going to the ER.

Not only did we not have to talk to a social worker or anything, but DD was so completely unscathed and happy and giggly that the nurses and doctor were mostly just amused by how upset my mom and I were by the situation! Like the doctor told us, this is why babies have soft spots! ;)

  • E seems fine. when he stopped crying i put him down and he was army crawling like normal, then i put him in his bouncy chair and he was jumping fine. He normally naps from 7-8ish until 10 am. I was only somewhat concerned because he hit his head, but he is totally fine. the bump on his head doesn't even look bad any more.
