Anyone else falling down the babywearing hole?

I am a little obsessed with wearing my LO.  We started with an Ergo with the infant insert and she loved it and would usually fall asleep while being carried.  Then I bought a sling off of Zulilly which I have been keeping in my diaper bag and using for short outings.  I broke out the Moby that I received for my shower this morning and have been wearing her all morning - this might be my favorite!  The wrap takes a few tries to master but it is so comfortable and she is sound asleep on my chest.  I' starting to look at the more expensive woven wraps but I'm afraid to start down that path - DH already thinks we have too many!

Re: Anyone else falling down the babywearing hole?

  • I have always gotten by with my mob y and ergo but I do drool over the gorgeous ring slings and woven wraps. But that is so not an addiction I can afford!

  • I keep a sling in my diaper bag too and I have the Ergo but I haven't fallen in love with it yet.

I'd like a woven wrap but haven't looked that much into them yet.
  • I love wearing him. My back does not as much.

Yeah, ours is superhero themed. I think I didn't have him high enough on my chest and that was a big part of the problem.

Tie the apron part (the first step) at the smallest part of your waist to make sure he's "close enough to kiss."

I have a mei tai, a Beco Gemini, and a ring sling. My next purchase will be a woven wrap. I love baby wearing!!

  • I'm with you! I would love to use my ring sling, but I can't quite figure it out. My ktan on the other hand I am in love with and so is LO. I want one in every color! Hubs isn't going for that though.
  • Yes! DD loves being worn. She's happy in the Ergo, but she LOVES her monkey wrap (it's Moby-esque, just not as bulky). We also have a ring sling, and I'll probably get a cotton or linen wrap when she gets bigger.

Now, if only she would EVER sit in the car seat without screaming...sigh.

  • I like my seven sling - still need to break out my Ergo (lo didn't weigh enough to use but I think we should be good as of tomorrow's check up :)). I have heard wonderful things about the moby and have been thinking of looking into getting one.
  • I want to fall down the babywearing hole... I have the Ktan and despite straining both of my thumbs figuring it out I like it, but baby often fusses when I put her in. I want to try the 'hug' hold but I'm not sure she's ready. What should I get next? I don't want anything that puts too much weight on my shoulders...
Look up "Babywearing International" and see if there are any local chapters by you.  I have a group close by that meets in my area and I will probably go to check out one of their meetings and see what it's all about.  They have a "lending library" or carriers that members have access to so you can borrow something and try it out before you purchase anything.  They also have a really active FB page and they are really supportive of Mamas wanting to wear their babies.  They do instructional classes, baby play classes, etc.

Have you tried many different wraps?  They all carry a little bit differently, maybe you could try a few and see if any feel better for your back.  I assumed that the Ergo would be easiest on my back and shoulders (my problem areas) but the Moby is actually the most comfortable for me.

  • I hate baby wearing. My guy tries to stand up and bop my in the head in my Moby. He has amazing head control. I don't like the newborn support in my beco. I'm sure I'll like it more in a couple months.

Once they start to stand in the wrap, you'll need to put them in a different hold :).

I love wearing DD. She loves it, too. She is my cutest accessory. :)

Google the "hug hold," where his feet dangle out. That should solve your problem!

  • I LOVE my K'Tan. My little guy slept during my target shopping trip in it and while I picked up my kitchen! Best investment ever!!!

  • I only wore DS once and was not into it. I knew I had to master baby wearing since I need to be hands free for DS. I have the bjorn and ergo and I baby wear all the time now. I am currently nursing her from a baby shower and I am debating if the ergo is too hot and if I should do the bjorn.

  • I would love to baby wear if DS would let me! He only wants to be held all day otherwise he's screaming. He refuses to be in the bjorn and will let me put him in the ergo for only short periods of time. I was debating whether or not to buy the k'tan to see if he'll like it better.
  • I have a moby which DD loves, but it is kind of a heavy fabric and bulky to get on. Is the k'tan any lighter or more compact? It looks like a similar style, which I like. I don't know anything about any carriers besides the moby and the ergo (which we have but haven't tried yet).

  • I have the Moby and a Becco Soleil . I used the moby with my second and third kids and even though I love it it does take some time to get on for me ( I'm a bit anal when it comes to how the fabric lays ) and it tends to stretch out the older the havier the kids get . Because if these issues I wanted another easier and faster carrier to get on since I have four kids and time is key . I ended up getting the new Becco Soleil and I'm in love. I tried the ergo on and hated it . I have tiny shoulders and I always felt the straps were slipping off . I love that this carrier is much like the ergo but has less padded shoulder straps that allow you to cross in the back and lie close to my neck. It also has a pocket for my cell phone and two toy rings . I bought the infant insert for it along with a matching hood , drool pads and a carryall bag that actually snaps to the carrier itself so I don't have to juggle a bag . I love to ware my daughter . It allows me to get stuff done and I have extra hands for my other kids .
  • I love wearing Isaac in my moby. I would love a ring sling. We have one other for when DD was a bit older and could control her head better.

  • I have worn this little one the most and having three is seems necessary. She loves being held, and the mei tai is working great for me. I had wanted a ring sling, but was nervous. My brother called me "one of those people" I assumed he meant hippie-baby wearer or something of the sort, lol. I love it!

  • I have a boba wrap which Arwen loves :))
  • Yep. We have like three wraps an ergo and a Mai tei (or however it's spelled)
Funny how no one anywhere around where I live wears their little ones. It's like I am from mars haha. Funny to hear all the comments. But I love love love babywearing and so does E! DH wants to, but he has a big belly and it's wicked hot out and so he sweats like crazy. This fall he will be able to wear her in the ergo

I prefer wearing MIke.  We used the stroller at the mall today because I wanted to get a foundation match done and I didn't want to take Mike off and put him on if he was sleeping etc....Mike never really settled into the stroller like he does when being worn.

Even DH who has been a little "why did we get this stroller if you're just going to wear him all the time" was jonesing for baby wearing after Mike's meltdown today.

I still need to master the Moby.  I need classes.

YouTube for Moby wrapping and just keep practicing. If it is a brand name Moby the material is very stretchy so put it on a little tighter than you'd think so that you can hold him in the right place. It seems easier to loosen than tighten to me. I have been using a woven gauzey type knock off I got off etsy since the Moby is too hot for me still. Love it because it is more breathable and less stretchy will Elanor is still so little.

  • Thanks! I will check out the hug hold. I didn't think he'd be trying to stand like that at three weeks.
  • I started out with a k'tan and ergo. LO did not like the k'tan and it's way too hot here to use the ergo with the infant insert. A friend loaned me a Babyhawk mei tai and LO and I both like it. I checked out a local babywearing meeting where I was taught some mei tai tricks and how to use a ring sling. I've joined the Babywearing swap on Facebook. I've already purchased a Girasol Mysol from a lovely mama on the swap. It's a beautiful handwoven wrap that was converted to a mei tai. I love it and am already addicted!
  • We have the k'tan and love it. LO passes out quickly in it and I have my hands free to do stuff around the house. Love it!

  • I have a Boba wrap which is great, I just wish it was quicker to get LO in and out of it. Therefore, I just ordered a Mai tai and also have bids on eBay for a Maya sling. I think I may have a slight addiction.

I have 2 k'tans, a peanut shell, a Bjorn and an ergo. Looking at a ring sling and my DH wants a big backpack hiking style one. Obsessed!
Eta- I'm also on kids 3 & 4 so I've been collecting a long time...
  • I fight with DH daily over baby wearing. He doesn't understand why I want to do it instead of using our Cadillac of a stroller. We do use the stroller and bean is happy in it- but today we had to go to midtown and walk a bit and I wore the baby who conked out as soon as I put him on.

I have a Moby which I adore. And a ring sling which I cannot get the hang of but want to badly love.

Me neither. I did attempt the moby again with this baby, but she was not a fan. I should probably try again when she isn't PO'd to begin with.

  • Used the moby to get groceries last night. I could never get a cart full because his carseat took up most of the cart!
I have a ring sling and a woven wrap on the way.
Can barely see Tyler cuddled down in there asleep.

My DH has gotten on board, and wears the baby now! I'm so with you on Midtown...maybe send him there alone with LO in the stroller and ask him how he feels about baby wearing after trying to navigate Times Sq? ;-)
