1st Trimester

8 weeks, is this when it gets bad?

So I am 8 weeks and 3 days and I am having an awful week :( I have still never thrown up, but just all day queasy, feeling sick, and can't think of a single thing on earth I want to eat. Everything disgusts me, especially protein. Anyone else having this problem? I am force feeding myself protein to keep myself and baby healthy, ugh, but I am gagging while doing so. Please tell me this will go away soon. Week 6 was awful for me, and week 7 was perfect, felt like I was not even pregnant I felt so good. My mom said when she was pregnant she hardly ever threw up. Here's hoping I take after her!

Re: 8 weeks, is this when it gets bad?

  • I'm in week 8 too and I've been feeling the same as you for the past week except week 6 was fine for me I didn't even feel pregnant . I usually lovr steak and chicken but even thinking of it is making me sick . to help i have been eating alot of cut up apples with yogurt and carrots , tomatoes , red peppers with ranch dressing. Also homemade potatoe pancakes is pretty much the only thing I can stomach try to eat plain foods and bitter sweet fruits like green apples they have been helping me Everytime , cut them up its easier to eat that way hope this helps !!

  • With my last pregnancy I was sick from week 6 to 8. Then I just felt tired until 2nd trimester.

  • You're definitely in the worst part of pregnancy.  With #1, 6-14 weeks was the worst.  Once you're in the second tri, it tends to get better.  I still felt bad occasionally until about 20 weeks or so, but no where nearly as often as I was.  Before then, I felt bad pretty much every second.  After 14 weeks, it happened less and less.  Don't worry, it does get better.  Around 12 weeks your hormones start leveling out a little more and you should start feeling better shortly after.  Good luck!
Also, at this point, I learned to just eat what you can.  Don't try to force yourself to eat something.  You'll have plenty of time to eat healthy.

  • ugh thanks ladies! May the force be with us!
  • Just like @Smithy83 the only thing I have had much success with are bagels and cream cheese!  It's so weird because I wouldn't think cream cheese would settle well but it does!  i am now at 10w and happy to be feeling better 65% of the time.  I also will add that it got so bad that I was prescribed Zofran and well, it works wonders but if you can battle it without meds, do so!
  • When I was pregnant the first time, I was totally fine until 8 weeks.  At that point I got horrible morning sickness that lasted well into second tri.  I think it's normal?  It's horrible to feel that bad, I'm sorry.  :(

  • All I ate today was a protein bar, life savers, ginger ale, I choked down greek yogurt, and tonight all I wanted was mashed potatoes. I feel like a bad mom already, but all I want to do is puke right now :(

  • The sickness really hit me this week, at 6 wks exactly.  I feel hungry and nauseous at the same time, and no food really sounds appealing to me.  I have found that plain mini wheats or corn flakes don't make me sick, but everything else is really hit or miss.

I feel bad because I can tell my 8-yr-old is wondering WTH is going on with me.  Today is his last weekday of summer break and I really don't feel like doing anything.

    :(

I feel your pain! I choke down Greek yogurt at least once a day!
  • Ugh...all day sickness just started for me in my 5th week.  Unfortunately, I have a terrible phobia of throwing up so I have high anxiety to go along with it.  I don't even feel human right now.

:( I am so sorry! I am the same way. I hate throwing up. Try keeping snacks on you all the time. Even if you feel sick try to eat crackers or something. I found if I nibbled every 2 or 3 hours I can stay ahead of it. Also, sour candies and peppermints are working for me!
  • I'm 10w5d (ish) now and week 8 was THE WORST for me. It was so unbearable. But it will pass! Week 9 was a massive headache and week 10 brought back the queasiness but nothing like before!
  • You don't have to force yourself to eat traditional protein. You can eat peanut butter, beans, eggs, etc. Just eat what you can.

I ate cheesecake and tomato soup for dinner. Lol

  • Like everyone else, I totally understand.... I was actually feeling pretty darn good until about week 7.5. Now I feel queasy a lot and even worse is how tired I feel. I liked the way one of you explained it- I often feel both really hungry (like a gnawing feeling) AND queasy. It makes it so hard to find something you want to eat. And, my appetite is SO much smaller than it used to be. I used to love food, & now nothing tastes that great and eating a regular sized meal makes me feel sick. I hope it really does get better in the 2nd trimester!  The one thing I'm thankful for is that I haven't thrown up at all, and my mom said she never did either....so I think I might get by without that.

  • I get extremely specific cravings, that super hungry feeling can only be sated by a certain food/ food combination. I felt this way during my first pregnancy, so who knows, maybe this one is a boy too!

  • 11 weeks is the peak of HCG levels unfortunately. Can't say it will get any better. Sorry. Mints help me a lot.
  • I am super afraid to throw up as well. I get nauseous sometimes all day , but it is getting better.
  • 8 weeks here too!  Hurray for blueberry pancakes for dinner!
  • I'm creeping on 9 weeks and feeling pretty nauseous at this point.... Appetite is completely gone, but my stomach starts to eat itself and I have to get food down. Kraft Mac n cheese has been keeping me pretty happy! Also McDonals French fries...my husband thinks I'm using this time as an excuse, but it is really all I can stomach! Certain smells are setting me off too and making me sick, hoping this goes away soon! Good luck ladies
