I had the surprise of my life when I learned I was pregnant. I am now about 9-10 weeks and pretty freaked out. I am really worried that due to my age something will be wrong with the baby or I will miscarry. I go to the doc next week for ultrasound and genetic testing. Ack! I wish I could just go to sleep and wake up when the results come.
Also, could someone please explain all of the acronyms or codes or whatever people are using on here? I don't understand what people are talking about . Thanks!
Re: 42 and first time
Congrats, and welcome! Although the chances of something being wrong are higher for AMA (advanced maternal age!) mamas, they are still not big risks. Try to not worry unnecessarily (easier said than done).
There is also a Pregnant after 35 board where you might find other women at a similar stage. Here's the link to that board, if you're interested: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/4615072/ShowForum.aspx
And there is a Bump glossary to help with some of the acronyms. You'll find most of the common ones here: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/blogs/nest_baby_editors/pages/the-bump-community-glossary.aspx
Good luck with your ultrasound!

Thanks for the glossary link. I'm relatively new too and couldn't figure some of them out.
This is so true! The OB I worked with pointed out "35 is the new 25!" and didn't believe in treating women differently because of age. 16yo's who get PG can have issues just as those of us who are older do. OTOH, being older, we've got a different perspective about life in general.
One thing to remember on the genetic testing is that it only shows a spectrum and has an EXTREMELY high level of false positives. One thing my OB also pointed out is that regardless of the results doesn't change anything about how they take care of you/baby pre-delivery along with baby. If a problem happens, they'll deal with it at that time.
