Getting nervous.

Also posted this in the Dec2013 board.

A little background-I delivered DD at 34w5d after spontaneous PTL.  She had a 12 day NICU stay and did just fine; she was just little.  We have no clue as to why I delivered early.  This time around, I started weekly P17 shots at 16 weeks.  I had my first transvaginal U/S today to check cervical length and lo and behold, my cervix is shortened by about an inch from the average length.  The only thing is, we don't have a comparison length from the beginning of my pregnancy.  I had to go to L&D to be monitored for contractions for an hour.  The good news is that I wasn't having anything major BUT I was having what they called "little blips".  As of today, I am just supposed to take it easy.  I go back next week for another cervical length check and I am praying that it doesn't shorten any more.  I am not supposed to lift my 2 year old DD or have sex.  Hospital bed rest may be in my near future if my cervix shortens anymore in the next week.  Keep me and LO in your T&P's.

Re: Getting nervous.

  • I am really surprised that they would put you on P17 shots, but not monitor your cervical length until now. Sending you thoughts and prayers that cervix behaves and no changes will happen when you have your check again.

  • I started seeing a new doctor...thank goodness.  I didn't feel my other doctor was being proactive enough.

  • good luck to you!  Have they suggested any progesterone therapy (either suppositories of p17 shots?)  Seems like you would be a candidate based on your history of preterm birth and shortening.
