Does anyone have any good recommendations for outerwear for LO's in the winter? I live in the North East winters can get very cold. I'm wondering what type of snowsuit I should look into buying.
I'm from MN where winters also get ridiculously cold. I was actually going to skip a snow suit/ big coat though. It's not safe to have them buckled in their car seats with thick clothing on because the straps apparently don't sit tight enough to their body. I was just going to get one of those car seat covers. I can't imagine ill have him outside much in the very cold weather besides the transfer to and from the car (since I hate the cold myself). I probably will purchase a lighter double lined fleece type snow suit for the slightly warmer winter days where we may happen to take an occasional walk or two.

What would you dress your LO in if they use the convertable car seat and you can't use one of those car seat covers and you aren't supposed to put them in a snow suit???? I live in South Dakota and it also gets very cold here in the winter!

Warm but thin clothing with hats and mittens, and warm blankets over them after buckling them in. The problem with snow suits and heavy coats is that in the event of a crash, they compress under the carseat straps which makes them too loose which risks ejection from the seat.
I saw a fleece one piece winter suit at Cabelas the other day, it was a pretty thin fleece. Would something like that be ok??
We're getting a polar fleece jump suit by Columbia for her car seat. Its just not safe to have a big puffer coat under car seat straps and polar fleece, layer properly, can be just as warm.

This, and also, you can use a carseat COVER, you just can't use the JJ COle Snuggle me or anything that is a barrier between the straps / seatbelt and baby. But the Cozy something-or-other is safe and approved.

Can you point me to anything that says the JJ Cole Snuggle Me is not safe? Usually it is just something in your manual that says not to add anything between baby and the seat or straps. But I'm sure the various car seat safety blogs say the same thing. I'm just too lazy to google on a Friday afternoon.

Our nephew wore outerwear that made him look like a little Norwegian gnome... hopefully it is coming our way.
