Miss C's appointment to get her blood draw was today. I made it for late afternoon so the lab wouldn't be packed. I woke her from her nap, gave her a cup of milk and packed some food in her diaper bag, in case there was a wait. When we got there, they took her right in. She cried the whole time they tied and retied the rubber strap on her arms. After all of that, they decided they couldn't find a vein because she hadn't recently eaten. They made sure to tell me that I would have to call my doctor and have him resend the test because they had already pulled it and I would have to come back on another day. There was no way I was going to make her go through this again, so I told them I was going to feed her in the waiting room and they could just bring her back in when she was ready. I loaded her up with a veggie pouch, raisins, yogurt melts, and water. After 30 minutes, they finally called her back. They put the rubber strap on her arm and smacked the inside of her elbow till they found a vein. She proceeded to lose her mind! Once they finally put the needle in, they had to dig around to find a good spot to draw blood. My poor baby was howling and I had to hold her down. We were both extremely upset when we left, so I took her to target and bought her a toy for being brave. I don't usually curse, but this drew it out of me. Fuck blood draws on babies! Fuck the lead test! Fuck those phlebotomists who couldn't find a vein! I will never go to that damn place again. Ugh. Sorry. Vent over.

Re: F/U Testing for Lead
I think the blood draw is more accurate. They did a toe prick on Landen and it came back higher than expected but still in the normal range. They are sending him for a blood draw just to make sure it wasn't their machine that was off. After reading this post, I am really not looking forward to it!!
