Cloth Diapering

Wow! What a difference!

Hi I am new here... My son is 3 months and I recently finally started using my cloth diapers. I was given some Gerber prefolds and some econobum snap covers. Seemed like I was off to a good start. I had heard that Gerber wasn't a good brand so I bought a small econobum starter package.... It just arrived UPS... OMG. Huge difference in quality!! :D

I had also bought some Thirsties Fab Doublers and hemp inserts because I had had a problem with needing to change him almost immediately after a pee.... I thought I had read somewhere about adding that to your prefold but now I can't find it again... Do any of y'all use inserts/Doublers with your prefolds??

I'm wondering if I'll really need them now that I've seen how awesome these econobum prefolds are.

Sorry for the long post but I was excited and no one else to share my joy of diapers with. Lol. Also curious about those liners/Doublers.

Re: Wow! What a difference!

  • i love the econobum prefolds !!!and the cover is so thin but never leaks !!

  • oh... and i dont line or double them...
  • I don't use extra inserts with my prefolds - if you have good quality ones now, you shouldn't need to (unless maybe at nap/bed time).
  • I use the doublers overnight with the prefolds. Otherwise they are not necessary. If they are microfiber make sure they aren't touching your baby's skin - I use a fleece liner over it.

  • Yep, over night I doubled, but not by much.  We started with using premie sized prefolds and now we use a size 1 in a size 2.  But only for overnight.  During the day just a pre-fold will do.  We do an angel wing fold, so I lay a tri folded prefold on the outer diaper before folding.

  • I use mostly Gerber prefolds as well and am adding better quality things as we have money. I find they do need to be changed more often. I like using fleece liners (you can just buy fleece at the fabric store and cut into strips) since this keeps wetness away from baby's skin and helps with rashes but haven't tried adding doublers. I would definitely recommend fleece liners though.
