Me time?

How do you get "me time" during the day? I've been feeling overwhelmed but would rather not just plunk them in front of the TV. DD1 isn't great about playing solo but I think I may scream if she makes me pretend to be a horse with her again today. TIA!

Re: Me time?

  • I get me time after DS goes to bed daily and during naptime. DH is gone at all other times during our day, otherwise I would get some time then! I take a couple hours a week on one of his days off to go shopping, to lunch with a friend or out for coffee just to get a little time to myself. :)

  • I pretty much don't. DS naps in the stroller when I walk the dog so I don't count that as me time.

Over the summer I hired a nanny to help out two afternoons a week, for 6 hours total, but I have found that I haven't been using that time for me. I'm using it to get chores done, to make calls and get things on our calendar, etc.

Most of my "me time" comes in the evening after DS has gone to bed. And now that I have him partially weaned, DH is able to take him for a good chunk of time on the weekend, during which I usually just take a nap.
  • When DD was your LOs ages, she went to MDO for a couple of hours a week. That was my me time. It rocked.
  • My son went to school two mornings a week last year and will go three mornings a week starting in September.  I did use the majority of his time in school to do errands and housework though.  I do consider my time at the gym ME time.  We get 3 hours a day of childcare included in our membership but I never leave him there that long.  The good thing is he loves it and has a lot of friends there so I never feel bad going to work out.

  • I will steal a few minutes here or there when she is playing to Bump or do something on the Internet, but most of my me time is after she goes to bed. Occasionally, I will have some during nap but 90 percent of the time, I use that time to get stuff done around the house or exercise.
  • During her nap, and after she goes to bed. Me time any other time potentially means DD is getting into trouble somewhere else in the house.....

  • Before they wake up, if they don't wake up before me; during DS's nap (He naps for almost 2 hrs so I try that one of DD's 45-50 min naps occur during that time)

Also if I've had a rough day DH keeps the kids entertained for about half an hour when he gets home so I can have some down time

  • Independent play is a learned skill that you definitely want to encourage. Start with small increments of time and work your way up. Set a timer and tell her mommy needs to do something and when the buzzer goes off you'll resume to playing with her.

  • I get up when my DH gets up (barring morning sickness) and I get my time in then.  DD typically gets up two hours later so I can have my coffee in peace and watch the Today show or something.  Of course it's basically contained to TV, the bump and other internet or reading endeavors, but that works for me.  I also get time after she's in bed and DH and I have finished up chores.  If I want to go out he is happy to be home and hang out with her.  We just figure it out, some weeks I need more time than others, same as him.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!
