Re: Peanut Butter

  • No. DH has a severe peanut allergy (among other allergies) so we haven't given ANY kid peanuts yet. Going to do it at an allergist office.

  • L has had it many times. There are no peanut allergies in my family.

    Kid #1 - 09/03/12
    Kid #2 - maybe???
    Diagnosed with Severe Ashermans
Hysteroscopy #10 - scar tissue grew back reblocking my right tube
#11 or IVF with scarring still inside?
1 lone embryo from September 2016 retreival, dx with Trisomy 16, starting fresh
  • We have no peanut allergies and I wasn't thinking and gave her one of those peanut butter on cheese cracker sandwiches.  She loved it and had no problems.

  • We haven't given E any yet because it's still a choking hazard for her at this point. Our pedi said we could introduce whenever since it's there's not a history of allergies but that until she's handling table food better that it could be a choking hazard especially with dry things like crackers.

DH and I talked about it yesterday, we've decided to introduce it through things that have peanut butter baked into or mixed into it. I'm making oatmeal, peanut butter bars this weekend and plan to let her taste one. And if she handles it well, we might consider giving her peanut butter in other forms such as sandwiches since she's doing much better with table food now compared to three months ago when pedi mentioned it.

No, but only because we hardly ever eat peanut butter so I don't have any to give.

  • Once. We don't eat a ton of PB and I have a PB&J phobia so I'm not about to make him a sandwich. (I know, it's weird.)

Ages ago. Our pedi cited research from the AAP that says there's little to no evidence that witholding allergen foods until a certain age lowers the likelihood they'll get an allergy. So we give a waffle with PB nearly every morning for breakfast. :)
Our pedi told us the same thing.

  • We were told to wait until 1 year, but no history of allergies here either. We usually eat almond butter, but DH has really been into sunflower butter lately, so I give that to DS on toast regularly.
  • Yeah, pretty much right when she started solids she got PB soon thereafter. She has it probably about 3 times per week on toast for breakfast.
  • I love PB and eat it with a spoon, haha, so I have given DD little tastes of it off my spoon or finger. We have no history if food allergies in our families.

  • No. DH is allergic to all nuts. So she prob won't be eating much in the way of nut products anyway.

  • I have a severe walnut allergy so the pedi said just to be wary of nuts. Well mh has given her smoothies with almond milk and peanut butter in it.

  • I would like to know how pb is a choking hazard. And G loves pb on toast :). I did just give recently. But she had had some almond milk prior.
  • I think it's a choking hazard because of its thick texture. If a baby gets too much it can be hard for them to move it around their mouth and could block thier airway. https://www.choosemyplate.gov/preschoolers/food-safety/choking-hazards.html

Correct. We didn't give it to ds1 for a long time because of this, not allergies. He was (is) the type of kid that shoves a ton of food in his mouth at a time and pb worried me. I'd be less worried with ds2, but just haven't had a reason to give it to him yet. He's a more delicate eater though, so it's a depends-on-your-kid kinda thing.

  • I am allergic to peanuts and treenuts, so we are a but free household. Alastair has had PB at my Ils' house and Aidan will get some there as well. Without me.

  • Quinn has had PB since she was about 8 months old. We have no history of allergies on either side so we let her have it. She loves a PB sandwich and PB toast!

Idk. It just freaks me out so bad. Before this year, I would start to gag really badly if DH ate it near me. Now he has eaten it at the table but I still wouldn't eat it or touch it.

I like PB, but not PB and bread or PB&J.
