Teething Question re: molars

My daughter has almost 12 teeth.  Her canines are working their way down (I can see the tips of them) and I'm wondering if she's getting molars.  We've definitely had teething pain before, but last night, she woke up crying a few times and nursing would console her, but when I tried to lay her down again, she would resume crying. I gave her some Tylenol (Ibuprofen upsets her stomach) and that resulted in a 3 hour stretch of sleep. She still wakes during the night, so that's not unusual, but usually will go right back to sleep after I nurse her.  Those of you with experience, could canines or possibly molars cause that kind of pain?

Re: Teething Question re: molars

  • Yes, any teeth could potentially cause that kind of pain. Teething can also cause ear pressure and pain, which makes it worse when they are lay down.

  • Yep. Teething sucks royally. My older boy teething didn't really phase him but when his molars and canines came in we all suffered. He was a whiney, clingy mess even with Tylenol and ibuprofen. And he was too big and teeth too far back to use teethers effectively. It was a rough month or two since his came in slowly. Ds2 (my sept baby) only has 4 teeth an he seems to be similar to ds1 in the teething area so I'm scared for when his molars decide to make their appearance.

  • Canines and molars were definitely rough for my oldest.  Although if she already has 12 teeth, she shouldn't be getting more for a while.

Canines were bad and molars were terrible in our house.

  • Thank you for the responses!  @Holly_1007 I'm counting the canines that are working their way down in the 12 teeth. Perhaps I'm jumping ahead thinking it's molars and her canines could be causing pain. I feel badly that I can't do much to help her.

  • If she has 12 teeth she should be done until her 2 year molars.  Although "2 year" is variable, Keagan didn't get them until almost 3, a friends son got his at 18 months.  For yours and LO's sake I hope the canines are it for a while!

12 teeth would mean she still has her one year old molars to get sometime soon. Then the 2 year molars in another year.
