Moms with girls who wear school uniforms...

What shoes do you get them?  The past 2 years, we have gotten DD the Claire shoe from Stride Rite (a mary jane style shoe).  While I love the look of the shoe and it seems to be quite comfortable for DD, I don't think they hold up all that well for the price.  They scuff super easy, making a pair of new $46 shoes look not so new within a month or so.  Any suggestions of shoes that have worked well for your DD?

  • Oddly enough, we just got the plain white Velcro or tie ones from Walmart and they've held up pretty good and get us through most of the time (only have had one pair actually wear out in three years), usually she outgrew them rather than anything else.  Otherwise, we've gotten her shoes at Payless.  Here and there we'll pick up something from JCP or Kohl's, but most come from Wally World..

I know it sounds odd, but at this point I'm just not going to put a lot of money into shoes because she outgrows them so quickly and she doesn't have any major foot issues to warrant getting more expensive shoes with the bells and whistles.

  • We always buy the Stride Rite Claire shoe(she's 10y.o. and has been wearing uniforms since Kindergarten).  She has a wide foot and that style comes in a wide.  They offer good support for the feet too.  They last my daughter all year.  They don't change shoes for recess so they do get some wear and tear on them;  if the toe part gets too scuffed I have been known to put shoe polish on the toe part.
  • At our school they are allowed to wear black or navy running shoes if they prefer them over dress shoes. SD has a pair of black running shoes and a pair of Mary Jane type flats.

  • What about a pair of TOMS or look alike brand? Would something like that work? Mine held up for about a year but I was working on my feet and wearing them ALL the time. If they were just school shoes they may even last longer.

  • Oh and just FYI there are TONS of kid shoes on Zulily right now, it might be worth checking out. ;)
