First days of daycare

Kellen only attends daycare 2 days a week (occasionally 3), but this week was his first week. Let me tell you, it is so hard leaving him there!!! I know he is in good hands, but still!

Well, Monday was his first day, and he also happened to be up teething all night the night before and had a mild fever the day before. So instead of taking him first thing in the morning, I waited until he napped and got to feeling better at 11ish. Well, his Monday was rough. Apparently he cried all day, napped only 15 mins and only while being held, and wouldn't eat his lunch :(

I was so sad to take him yesterday knowing how rough Monday went. The minute we got in the classroom he started crying! It was so hard leaving him while he was crying. But as soon as I left, I waited out of his sight and he stopped crying in about 15 seconds and did well the rest of the day! Ate his lunch, napped 40 minutes IN THE CRIB and played with the other babies! And I have NEVER gotten a reaction quite like the one I got when I came to pick him up, either. It was so precious I almost broke down and bawled! He saw me, made his OMG face, squealed and started stomping both his feet and bobbing up and down and then ran to me faster than I've ever seen him move!

I am so glad he did better yesterday and I am hoping this gets easier for me as time goes on. I know it is so good for him to be around other kids and exposed to new people and places! I just so wish I could be a fly on the wall and watch him all day while he is there!

    I am glad his second day was better.  I bet he will end up loving all the activities and toys at DC!

    So glad that his 2nd day went better! And what a cute reaction to seeing you - just picturing that gives me the warm fuzzies! Hope he continues to do well

    My favorite part of the day is picking Karsyn up from daycare! I'm glad Kellen had a better day yesterday.

    We don't start daycare until October, but I'm already nervous just thinking about it. I keep telling myself that it's good for him and that he'll love playing with other kids.

    @hijinx It was SO HARD taking him again after his rough first day. I lost sleep over it and cried and felt like a terrible person for putting him through that! But I knew it really was for his own good and hearing he did better yesterday was almost as awesome as the day he was born! Haha. No but really. I was just beyond relieved!

    I'm glad his second day was better.  He seems to enjoy everything he does and sees, so I'm sure he'll calm down soon.  Maybe after a good second day, he'll be excited the next time he goes.

    A kid named Kellen started in B's class Monday and I was all irrationally sad it wasn't his buddy.

    @lewispm hahahaah this hilarious.  I am sitting here laughing out loud and I will tell you why.  Liam is starting dc for the first time every also in September.  I was off all year so with the occasional doctors appointment or going out to lunch and one epic trip to chicago I haven't really been away from him.  I am freaking out.  Just from stories and pictures the babies remind me of each other. I read the first part of your post and just literally started hysterical crying.  I stopped reading.  I told my husband all about it and said Liam would hate me, he wouldn't eat, he wouldn't sleep, he would think we abandon him etc.  I finally was such a mess he told me to get some rest.  

    I slept for three hours.  I woke up and came out to the living room to read the rest.  And it was good!!!  The second day went well!!! dammit I wish I read the whole thing. I wouldn't have gone into a ball of depression in my bedroom for three hours. So, the good news is he is totally adjusting.  And it will continue to get better.  I tell myself this all the time, but it is true and your story just proved it.  First day sucked, but the next was better. I am looking forward to hear how he does next time.  I imagine by september he will be the President of the DC.  Thank you for sharing this.

    @megs52881 Awww, megs I am so sorry I caused you to get all frantic like that!!! :(

    And FTR, I was just as frantic about it before he started, so what you are feeling is not unheard of. And yes, day 2 went MUCH better!! I watched for a couple mins through the window before letting him see me, and he was just sitting on a little chair, laughing at a little girl as she banged some blocks together. He was totally enjoying himself! It almost brought me to tears seeing how much he was enjoying it. And then his reaction to seeing me, Priceless. Seriously the best feeling ever.

    Liam will be fine! you are right, he and K seem eerily similar (even down to their clothes!) and I'm sure both of them will be ruling the school in no time!

    And PS: YH sounds really sweet. I haven't taken a 3 hour nap in over a year, at least!
