Before you buy a breast pump..

Just wanted to let everyone know, before you buy a breast pump CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY! Under the Affordable Care Act, breast pumps are now covered by insurance companies. I called mine today and they told me I could get a free Ameda double electric pump, or a manual pump--AND accessories (such as freezer bags/storage containers, plus any additional freezer bags I could re-order every 90 days, around a $300 value). Needless to say, I ordered mine ASAP  So before laying out all that money or putting it on your registry, give your insurance company a call and see what they'll offer you. I'm letting everyone know because none of my pregnant friends knew, and I only just learned of this last week. The savings is a big help in the time of a new baby.

    Yep, definitely call your insurance company first. One of my friends let me know about this and I was pleased to find out that my insurance is covering my breast pump - I have already ordered and received it! :)

    When is the appropriate time to do this?  Right after your 1st tri ends? or closer to delievery?

    You'll want to check with your individual insurance company. Some have restrictions on when you can order, such as 60/30 days before EDD or after delivery. Call and ask, every plan is different. Also ask your insurance provider about which medical supply places to go through, because some insurance plans only use specific places and they should be able to provide you with the phone numbers/websites to review what options for pumps are available to you. Supply, shipping, delivery will just depend on what medical supply place you go through.

    Yes, best thing to do is call. For me, I could order it any time during my pregnancy/after delivery. Shipping was free. Absolutely no cost at all.
