GTKY: something different about your LO

What is something that surprises you about your LO? Something that you wouldn't have figured on ever happening?
Mine is that I'm pretty sure her favorite veggies are brussel sprouts. Random because I thought it was one of those things that kids didn't start out liking and was an acquired taste.

  • The things that surprises me is that my son is totally obsessed with the book Brown Bear Brown Bear.  He has a very short attention span and has never been interested in books much, but since the first time we read this book he has been hooked!  He makes us read it at leasts 4 times in a row before bed, and out of all the books he always knows exactly which one it is, and carries it everywhere.   It's adorable, but I am kind of getting sick of the book already:)  I need some variety!

  • @hayden1jl - DS is obsessed with Brown Bear too!! We have to hide it unless it's playtime because he wants to read it forever. He can sit for an hour just reading it and playing with the sliders. He even goes looking for it: "Bow beh, bow beh?" What is it about that book?

  • DD will snuggle with her "babies" and say "awwwww". I first saw her do that on her birthday. It's adorable. She is also a huge hambone and is super friendly. Nothing really freaks her out. It's like having a kid that's the opposite personality of me. I am friendly but in a shy/awkward way.

That he whistles. I have never seen a kid his age whistle before - he's been doing it since 9 months.

Wow, that's amazing, I didn't know it was a possibility either, but I guess it makes sense. Just requires appropriate movements with the mouth.

  • She has a cat phobia. Absolutely crawls out of her skin around them, and her whole body shakes! But she'll walk right up to a horse or a cow, looming several feet over her. WTF??! I love her.

  • How much he is a "daddy's brat"! Cortlandt didn't really bond with DH until he was a little older than Camden because he was deployed for a few months and in school/work all day when he got back. Camden and DH definitely have a super strong bond and he prefers daddy over me unless he is sick or tired! He is also obsessed with ice and begs for it which is weird for a kid!

Too funny! We are very close to hiding! But he Talks and squeals along through the whole story it's just too cute. But it is interesting why that book? We even got Panda bear panda bear which is virtually the same thing and he could care less. Won't even sit through it. This kids!

  • @hayden1jl and @stephaniefine - So funny that our kids are Brown Bear addicts. Does your book have the sliders? DS has other books with sliders but this one is his favorite, bar none.

  • How quickly she has learned to communicate using sign language. I didn't think she would pick up on it this fast, but now she can tell us when she's hungry, when she wants more, and understands diaper change, just hasn't figured out how to sign it back :)

This is us too! LO knows so stinking much it's ridiculous. Our current favorite is owl. You put your hands at your eyes in the shape of a circle and sort if turn them around your eyes like the circles around an owl's eyes. She is super cute and puts her hands facing out wards and wiggles her fingers at you. @sunflowersummer your LO will get change soon and it is SO helpful and has helped with potty training too.

  • How much he understands what I ask him. If I say are you ready to eat, he heads straight to his chair. He understands outside, bath, milk and stinky. If he's poppy he will come to me and pull on his diaper and shake his head. It amazes me how much cognition he has.

  • L is obsessed with big rubber balls. Kid has so many toys and all she wants are the balls. I'm also surprised how strong she is. And fearless!

  • Cam will share his binkies. He will offer one of the very many in his crib. It is very sweet. He also loves to read. He will point to the animal and make the animal noise. Then he laughs at himself because he is so happy/proud.

Well my biggest surprise so far has been his birth weight. Lol.

More recently I have been surprised at how attached he is to nursing. My other boys transitioned easily when I was ready to wean. Josh acts like a crack addict with his begging for the boob.

It surprised me when Anna did something funny and then laughed at herself - like when did she become aware that her fake coughing and sneezing was funny?! Now she does it all the time, it's adorable, and every time she wrinkles up her nose and giggles at how hilarious she is... cracks herself up!

For my for real answer: I'm surprised at how much she is like my husband. I know it's unreasonable but I always sort of pictured a baby like me. And she's clearly all H
My son is totally MH 'Mini-Me'. Will LOVES his Dad too. I'm surprised at how independent my son is. We haven't experienced one ounce of separation anxiety yet. He likes to interact with people and play with others, but he also can keep himself entertained quiet well. I guess I'm kind of surprised at that.

I'm also a little surprised at how little my son babbles. I LOVE baby babble! I wish he did it more often!

  • I am just blown away every day by him! Honestly, this may sound all mushy and cheesy, but he is just perfection to me. I look at him every day and I can't believe MH and I made him. It's just crazy. He is so loving and sweet and yet stubborn and wild.  I just love that kid to pieces.

But probably the most surprising thing would be that he is so blonde! I always pictured him with dark brown hair when he was in my belly, and then I was right, for a few months. But at about 3 months all his hair fell out and it grew back completely blonde!

  • How loving he is! He will grab a stuffed animal or the couch pillow or his blankie and just lay his head down and go "awwww" it darn near breaks my heart every time. Also how much of a creeper he is! We took him to the pool Sunday and he walked up towards this older man laying out and just stood and stared at him lol, he also gravitates towards older kids and does the same thing!

LOL Yeah, the creeper thing, I forgot about that. Restaurants are the worst, when we're there she will stare at the people at one table. Luckily they think she's adorable and not weirded out by it, but hopefully she grows out of it before she's big enough for it to be more awkward.
