Need advice

So It has been 18 days since the insimination and still no AF. A week after the IUI the nurse called with my blood work and said I didn't ovulate. But now I am 4 days late with AF and starting to wonder if it could be possible for me to be pregnant. I took a test last night and then this morning and both were negitive. AF is always right on schedule for me. Should I call my doctor for a blood test or keep waiting for AF?

Re: Need advice

  • Do they think you ovulated late? Or not at all? If you ovulated late, that could make your period late as well. Have you been temping or charting at all? Good luck and keep us posted!

  • I just went by what the ovulation test said. And the app on my phone. The test said I was at my "peak" time so we had the IUI the next day. It's probably just stress but geez I wish it would just get here so we can do our next IUI
  • Ovulation kits measure LH, which surges when your body is getting ready to ovulate. However, it is possible to have an LH surge and then not ovulate at all that cycle, or to surge again a week or so later and ovulate after the second surge. If you temp, you will be able to confirm whether/when ovulation occurred based on a temp shift, but there is really no way to confirm it using ovulation kits/tests. If blood work showed you had not ovulated 11 days ago, it may be that you have ovulated since then or that you didn't ovulate at all. If you didn't ovulate at all, there's no telling when you might get a period. If you ovulated since your blood work, your period probably isn't due yet since your luteal phase is likely around 14 days long and ovulation would have occurred less than 11 days ago.

I highly recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility, which gives you a really good sense of how your body/cycles work and how to understand your fertility signs. It's priceless if you are inseminating without the assistance of blood work and ultrasounds for timing purposes.
