Help fix my morning routine

I go back to work the day after Labor Day, and I am easing into my morning schedule with both kids. I need to leave the house by 7:30 every morning to be at work on time. DD (3yrs old) wakes up at 7am. DS has been waking up at 5am and nursing in bed with me till then, but I will need to start showering and be ready to leave before DD wakes up. How should I adjust DS's or my schedule to help us be ready? Should I feed DS from 5-6, put him down at 6, risk him screaming while I shower and get dressed? How do you do your mornings with two kids? Oh, and FWIW, DH is usually not home in the mornings while we are getting ready. He has to be in by 6am. TIA!

  • Is it possible to shower the night before? I miss showering in the morning but I'm a single mom and I have friends watch DD while I shower in the evenings so it's one less thing I have to do in the morning.

  • I showered at night for a while, until I got more comfortable with getting ready on time with DS1. I'll prob do the same when I get ready to go back to work this time, too. I would also put DS1 in his bouncy seat in the bathroom with me once I started back to showering in the mornings.

  • I could definitely shower at night, but what do you do about your hair? Pony tail every day? That's what I would have to do. But a night shower for me would definitely be the easiest solution.

I have to leave by 8. I get up at 530, pump, take a shower & get myself ready. I get DS up at 7, get breakfast for him & get him ready. Then get the babies up, changed & dressed. I nurse both at the same time. I let the dog out while I'm loading up the kids. It was tough the first few days, but everyone adjusted soon. Good luck.

ETA.. my DH isn't home in the mornings either, he leaves by 430.

  • I have short hair, so I guess I didn't figure the whole hair style thing... I just use a straightener to get anything that looks weird and then I'm done. If I had long hair, I'd probably stick to ponytail or bandana (if they're allowed at your work).

  • Oh, or a thick ribbon (I can't use headbands because they give me massive headaches). Hope that helps! :)

I usually shower at night since having DD1. If I want my hair to look good the next day I blow dry my hair at night and then use the straightener in the morning. Works well for me.
