Bye bye RnP

Last night LO had to sleep in his crib bc he has been starting to roll over. I did not feel comfortable putting him back on his back in the RnP bc once he gets on his stomach he will use his legs and push up. I feared him going up and over.

But for there to be no transition he slept thru the night for the most part. I thought I heard him at 4 am, but his fuss never escalated. I checked in on him before I left for work and he was on his stomach with fingers in mouth. I hope LO can STTN in the crib like he did in RnP!

Anyone's LO start doing this yet?

Re: Bye bye RnP

  • I've been transitioning one LO to her crib for naps. She's still in the RNP at night. She falls asleep easily but doesn't sleep long, 20-30 minutes. She doesn't always STTN in the RNP though.

Her sister insists on sleeping in our bed though, for all naps and nighttime sleep. :(

  • My LO has started to go crazy moving around in his crib. Yesterday I woke up to find him at the complete opposite end fully turned around. Today I found him facing the back with a leg through a slat and kicked up against the wall.

He has been sleeping better in the crib than he did in the pnp

  • Tonight will be our first night in the crib.
  • We are going to start transitioning to the crib at the end of the month. LO started rolling from back to belly about 3 weeks ago (the day she turned 3 months). She usually sleeps in her PnP at night, but since she starting rolling, she likes to roll in her sleep too, but she hates to be on her belly so she fusses until you roll her back over. It definitely makes for long nights. I let her sleep in the bed with me last night and she didn't roll at all and STTN again. I'm not sure what the crib will bring when we try it, but hopefully it's not too awful!
  • I just had DS into the crib for naps and bedtime.  He was doing great for almost a week.  Then he got a cough, and doc said to keep him elevated when he sleeps, so it was just easier to get him back into the RnP.  His cough is a lot better, so I'm going to give it one more day, and then I'm going to get him back into that crib!

Our DS had been in his pnp because we are in the process of moving. I'm hoping he will sleep better once we put him in his crib.

Yes! We said goodbye to our RNP Sunday night and it was his first night in the crib. He has done great! He has stayed on his normal schedule, sleeping 8:30 - 4 and then 4:30ish to 7. He has been a bit squirmier I've noticed, where he's waking up and talking/wiggling etc. but he does this for up to 30 minutes and then goes back to sleep.

Last night he woke up at 2:30 for some reason and I got up, planning to feed him. But he was happy and not crying, but definitely wide awake, so I stood watching the monitor for a few minutes, then went to start a bottle. By the time I came back with the bottle he was back to sleep. Then at 5:45 he was up again. I get up at 6 anyway so I was prepared to go get him, but I wanted to sleep in a little bit. I was enjoying hearing him chatter to himself in his happy state. He did this for 20 minutes then fell back to sleep and we woke him at 7!

He never did this in his RNP. He was so uncomfortable by the end that if he woke up he would self soothe or cry, but there was no happy chattering and just hanging out awake.

The baby chatter is so cute!

Is your crib mattress inclined or flat? We started LO out at an incline because the Pedi suggested it. But the first two nights the same thing happened - he ended up sideways and all the way at the other end of the crib where it was flat anyway. So last night we took the incline away and put him flat. He stayed put all night long with just a slight angle turn. It was a lot better.

It's actually flat!! I think he just wiggles a lot!

That's the same reason DS slept in one so long. I started to notice that when he moved the bassinet moved and I think it disturbed him. I'm just guessing though. Good luck!

  • This sounds almost exactly like our RNP transition.  We were also using a Woombie so we waited about a month or so in his crib and this week we started putting him in just a sleeper instead of the Woombie.  Losing the swaddle was definitely the harder transition but he's already back to STTN after just 3 nights with one wakeup.

It was a little sad for me to see the RNP go!  We loved that thing and so did he.
