MOTN Feedings/feeling sick

I have been having a really hard time with MOTN feedings and am wondering if this is normal and I should just suck it up or if I should go to the doctor and see if something is wrong.

LO is four months old.  When she was a newborn, I had to set an alarm and get up to feed her every two hours if she hadn't already woken up.  She was generally up eating ever 60-90 minutes.  It was rough, but I got used to it. Since then she gradually got to where she was going to sleep at 8, waking up at 3-4 and then up for the day the day around 6 or 7.  I go to bed between 9 and 10 pretty much every night.  A little over a week ago, she started waking up at about 12:30-1, but still wakes up at 3-4. I don't mind it because she's a baby and I considered us really lucky when she was only waking up once.

My only problem is that now when she wakes me up, I'm sick.  When I get out of bed I start getting really hot and sweaty.  I also get dizzy.  She sleeps in an arms reach cosleeper next to my bed and on the way to the nursery to change her I often have to lean against a wall because I feel like I'm going to pass out.  During the diaper change, I am so dizzy and hot that it makes me nauseous and I feel like I'm going to vomit.  About 1/3 of the time I put her on the floor to change her because I'm worried I am going to pass out with her up on the table. Once we get back to bed and I nurse her, I am still dizzy and sweaty and just sit there trying to stay awake.

I don't remember ever feeling this bad when I was waking up all the time.  I was hoping it was just an adjustment, but it seems to be getting worse rather than better.  I am fine being awake during the day and it doesn't seem to be affecting me there.  It's really just an awful 30 minutes or so twice a night.

Is feeling this bad normal?  If not, any suggestions?  Please no flames. I realize that we are really luck that she sleeps in big stretches, I'm just hoping to not feel this awful.

Re: MOTN Feedings/feeling sick

  • The baby waking up yes normal. You feeling sick not normal. You should check it out with your doctor. Sounds dangerous. Hope you feel better!

  • I feel that way to a lesser extent. Are you drinking enough water? Eating decently?

Same here, I know mine is a combination of not drinking enough water & our room getting really stuffy at night.

  • I drink a ton of water and have some by my bed that I drink every time i wake up. I eat all the time but seem to still be hungry. I'll try keeping some crackers on my nightstand. Thanks ladies. I hadn't thought of the food/ water aspect.
  • Maybe a blood pressure issue? Sometimes I get dizzy when I get up because my BP is low, but never as extreme as what you described. Call your doc to be safe!

  • It sounds like a blood pressure issue to me. I would definitely call your doc and get checked out.

  • I also think you should call your doc.  When I was nursing, I was a ball of sweat ALL the time, and occasionally dizzy just from getting out of bed quickly, but never to the extend you're talking about, and it doesn't sound very safe for LO.  Can you have DH get up and change her while you get up and get situated?
