Long story short. I took my daughter to the doctor over gas a few weeks ago, the ped said it was typic fussiness. I in my heart know its not. My little girl cries on end throughout the day, and very seldomly has happy moments. When she sleeps she grunts the entire night. Last night she didn't sleep at all, neither did I. She is always pulling up her legs and tightening up. She toots no exaggeration around 150 plus times a day. In one feeding, one breast, she tooted 7 times in ten minutes. I called the ped again yesterday and he still considered it to by typical. She hasn't pooped in four days now. If it is my breast milk or fast letdown I've posted about recently, then I would gladly pump, or switch to formula. He told me yesterday he didn't want me to do either. Her umbilical hernia started around that time and now is a good bit larger. This has total been going on three weeks. I am exhausted, more importantly she is exhausted and just plain out doesn't feel good!I just don't know what to do, am I thinking too much into this or is my mommy instinct kicking in?

Edit: using mylicon with every feeding for the past 48 hours as well. Don't see a difference.

Re: WWJ13D

  • I might try eliminating dairy from my diet, and/or adding a probiotic to see if that helps?

It sounds like she's uncomfortable at any rate, so maybe look at alleviating the symptoms. I would not switch to formula, as that can also cause gassiness.

  • Have you tried infant massage and gas drops? Those help with my daughters. I wouldn't worry about constipation as long as you are getting lots of wet diapers. Breastfed babies can go a while without pooping. Constipation is the consistency of the poo, not frequency.

  • While the pooping issue is completely normal, We had the grunting issue with DS and assumed it was gas as well. Kept giving him gas drops and doing the massages. My mommy instinct kept telling me it was something else and finally the pedi diagnosed it as silent reflux. I sure hope it's not, for both of your sakes but it's something to consider. I would personally get a second opinion. Hope you get rest/relief soon!

  • Sounds more extreme than my LO, but like her. I a eliminating diary and she has been sleeping great. Maybe try it? I know they say it takes 2 weeks for dairy to clear system but I saw the improvement by the first night. GL

  • maybe go see a chiro? We have had extreme fussibg and my pedi said reflux but I didn't want to give meds. we eliminated dairy, started probiotics, and got him adjusted. new baby! also make sure you aren't overly full, try pumping ioff a lil before feedings when you can. if you can keep that letdown from making him pop off he will take in less air and hindmilk settles better in their tummies.

  • My LO was like this, and has reflux as well. Cutting out dairy really helped him be happier throughout the day and less gassy.

  • My LO has issues with toots and constipation too. For us, we use mylicon in every bottle, gripe water in the bottle every 4 hours, and 1 teaspoon of dark Karo syrup a day. We use formula, but maybe pumping would allow you to deliver these meds and some relief to your LO?

FWIW, mylicon in the bottle works far better than oral delivery before or after a feeding.

    Good luck!

  • I'd start by eliminating dairy and all gassy foods and see if you notice a difference.

  • I haven't read all the replies sorry if in repeating but formula would clog her up more so I would avoid it. Definitely go for a second opinion. I've read a couple threads about prune juice. Perhaps ask the doctor about giving your baby an ounce of prune juice. Hope your LO gets some relief soon
