Camping

We are going camping this weekend and bringing DS along.  We got a new tent - sleeps 6, so it is big enough for our queen air mattress and the pack n play for DS.  Who has gone camping with their LO's?  Can you give me some tips?  What to bring (like DON'T forget this)?  What was just wasted space?

Re: Camping

  • we camped with DD in a camper, and we needed toys, toys toys.  we didn't bring nearly enough, and she's not so entertained by sitting around, cooking food, and enjoying the sun like we are.  Also, DD is typically on solids..she eats whatever we eat.  But I found that our eating schedule was not always predictable, and I needed to bring emergency snacks, or baby food to make sure she stayed on schedule.  Oh, and lots of bottled water to make formula bottles. have fun!

  • @BPaws - you are amazing!  Thank you for the list!  AND I have seen Boondock Saints!

I love the frozen water bottle idea.  We are staying at a state park where there are showers and flush toilets....and drinking water!  So I was planning on getting a jug with a spout to fill up with drinking water.

How/where do you bathe H when you camp?

  • You're right.  We'll see just how dirty he gets and much swimming we do!  He gets a bath every night before bed, so it's just part of the bedtime routine.....

  • Thanks ladies!!  I am bringing 2 towels each per person - so I hope that is enough!  From camping, we are heading to DH's hometown to visit for a couple days and then heading to Door County for a couple days.  So not only are we packing for camping, we are packing for 5 days in WI!  Oofta!

I bought 2 battery powered fans - we got those all set up last night and turned them on to see how loud they are.  We all sleep with fans on for white noise at home, so this is a MUST while camping!  We are also bringing Sam's white noise machine, just in case the fans don't drown out all noise!

@CourtneyEPillar - the dark tarp over the tent is a great idea!  I am so concerned with DS waking up at the crack of dawn because it's light out!!

  • I love this thread.  DH wants to go camping with Charlotte.  BUT, she has never slept in a room with us and usually sleeps with blackout curtains.  I think I would need to sew a blackout cover for her PNP in order to make this work.  ;o)
  • @piphigirl I am nervous about the sleep....especially napping during the day when it's so bright out!  Sammy sleeps with blackout curtains too (as do we!).  We have a pretty large tent, so I was thinking of hanging a sheet from the top of the tent, so that he can't see us?

You could always go someplace close to home and if it's a fail, you just pack up and go home!

  • @Tapthathank - I totally just found this:

Is $99 an exorbitant amount of money for us?  Yes.

Will I be buying this so we can travel more?  Probably.
  • Shut up!  It looks stinkin hot in there.....is it more like mesh?  to allow from some air flow?

    it says sold out!
