refusing naps again :-(

yeesh my kid is just inconsistent on napping. even if i put her down around the same time every day!

yesterday she screamed bloody murder (i thought she was going to throw up) and it just got worse when i checked on her.  did that for 45 min, then she passed out for 20 before waking up crying again.

morning nap was fine, if a little short, but now she's spent the last 40 minutes and counting going back and forth between crying and playing with the couple loveys in her crib.  she ate and had a diaper change before going down... i just don't get why some days she's a napping champ with 2 naps of 2 hours, then days like today she doesn't want to nap at all

oh and regardless of naps she will not fall asleep before 8pm.  i've put her down at 7 and 7:30 before and both resulting in screaming fits until she fell right asleep at 8.

anyone else have odd napping these days? i thought we'd be working towards 1 a day naps by now, but she goes down between 9 and 10am whether she's up at 5am or 7am or anywhere in between.

Re: refusing naps again :-(

  • Today Amir napped all of MAYBE 35 mins. He's been up since 1030. It's 645 now. He's not whining so I'm just going to let him have it.
The other days we can usually get a nap of hr 10-20mins around 230/3 after being up since 945/10. I see he's just not my day time sleeper. Like me. I prefer a full night over breaking up my day.

  • I would try to incrementally push the morning nap back further and further until it eats the afternoon nap. That's what we're doing and it seems to be helping with nap refusal.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • i've been trying that a bit, its how we got to the 9-10am time.  used to be she'd wake up at 5, go to bed at 7, wake up at 8 go back down at 11... but yeah i'm going to have to do something.

  • We go in phases, for sure. When it's a bad week I just keep reminding myself it will pass.

  • DD still takes her morning nap like a dream, and it generally lasts two hours or nearly that.

She still needs a PM nap at the usual time (3:30-4:30ish.)  Some days it is perfect; others she has a party in her crib for an hour.  I think on daycare days, I need to move that nap back about 10-15 minutes to avoid her overtired period and second wind.
