CIO Night 2

So I finally got fed up. LO is in our room (which has been fine) but has been waking up at least 3 usually more times at night. I've been nursing her back to sleep. I used to put her back in the crib but recently she's been waking up so I've been keeping her in our bed. It's now gotten to the point where I'm done. I want our bed back, our room back, and I want to sleep more than 3 hours at a time. Last night we finally did CIO after other sleep training techniques haven't worked. It took her 40 mins and it was AWFUL. I felt like a horrible mom even though I knew we had to do it. She slept much better last night but still woke up at 12 and 4. Tonight she fell asleep in 10 mins and hasn't woken up yet. My fingers are crossed that she will sleep even better tonight. So please tell me it gets better and she will sleep throughout the night soon. How many nights did it take before there was a huge difference in sleep habits? I'm ready for her to be in her own room and I want SLEEP. NO real point to this post but I feel better now that I wrote it.

  • Oh thank you for reassuring me. I know it's time but it is still nice to be reassured from others? I wasn't sure what to do when she woke up. Do I let her cry again at midnight if she wakes up? @mathlete

  • It will get better. You have to be consistent, though. I think that's the biggest part! There will still be nights and/or naps where she'll have trouble going to sleep, but overall it will get better with time! GL!

It'll get better! DD screamed for nearly 3 hours the first night, then maybe 30 minutes the second night. It got less and less each night; I think it only took maybe 4-5 days til she was only fussing a minute or so at bedtime? Now, I did not night-wean her at that time, I wanted to let her do that on her own, but she was only waking up twice a night. Just be consistent!

    Edit: words, too many words.

  • We've been putting LO down awake since he was five months old and he still cries for 5-20 minutes every night at bedtime. And wakes up 1-3 times. Makes me very jealous to hear the vast majority say it gets better SO fast:( But, nevertheless, I hope it goes quick for you!

  • DO NOT GIVE UP. IT WILL GET BETTER.

If you made it through the first night, you've survived the worst of it. I promise.

and I pinky-promise you'll appreciate this later.  a week of crying is completely negated by MONTHS of sleep. :)
This!!!  The first night was sooooo hard, but it gets better.  My DD was waking up 5-10 times per night wanting her pacifier and we did Ferber (with paci weaning and night weaning) and by night 3 she was falling asleep with in a few minutes and no longer needed a paci.  Night weaning took about 1.5 weeks, but once we were done with our one middle of the night feeding she started sleeping 12 hours straight and it only takes a few minutes of fussing (at a max, some times she rolls right over and falls asleep)..  It is so wonderful for all of us!  She gets the sleep she needs to grow and learn, we get the sleep we need to be the best parents possible.

  • Putting G in her room was the key for us. Along with CIO. If she could see me in the middle if the night, she was crying. Mother's Day, I put her in her crib and have never gotten up at night with her since. She just did not do well in our room. And it was about 30min of crying and has not happened since. Best thing I ever did. It is teaching her how to put herself to sleep which is a very good skill.
  • I'll echo what others have said. I seriously thought it wasn't going to work and a few attempts I gave in. I finally decided that enough was enough and stuck with it and I can't believe the difference in our sleep!

I will say though that it took over a week for them to fully adjust to soothing themselves and we had some horrendous naptimes and night crying. However after about a week and 3 days it was like a switch flipped and I haven't looked back since.

I was ready to give up at the end of that week but was reassured to give it a little longer since I had made it that far already. I was amazed the first time I put them in their cribs left the room and there wasn't a peep.
