2nd Trimester

Pelvic Pressure?

Some background: With my first pregnancy I had a previa, several hospital stays with bleeding, anterior placenta, and preterm labor at 32 weeks! During the preterm labor I had strong contractions but no dilation and they were able to get it to stop with terbutalin.

With this pregnancy I could feel movement at 14 weeks and am having Braxton hicks contractions already at 19 weeks. I have been having a lot of low pelvic/vaginal pressure. TBH it feels like the baby is pushing directly on my cervix. It isn't there all the time but definitely with the contractions and off and on through out the day. I was told that since I had preterm labor with my first I am much more likely to have it again. My question: Is it normal to have so much pressure? I know that it is normal to feel some occasionally but this is more often than that for sure. My first was also frank breech so I never felt pressure with her because she never dropped. I got the occasional foot to cervix but that was all. I have an u/s and apt on the 3rd and 4th. I think I will call the doc tomorrow.

Re: Pelvic Pressure?

  • I'd call your doctor this morning.  They may want you to come in for a quick check.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Good Luck!

  • I've had a lot of pelvic pressure, as well.  However, I am at risk for PTL.  I am 24 weeks and just had a transvaginal U/S to check my cervical length and baby's head was resting right on my cervix.  That explains the pressure!  I would definitely make a call to your Dr's office with your history.  Better safe than sorry.  Good luck!

  • I've had what I "may' describe as pelvic pressure, only because I can't find another way to explain it. Sometimes it is not pain, but a "pressure" feeling. This comes and goes for me.
