Babies on the Brain

Favorite musicals?

I watched Across the Universe, Moulin Rouge, and Chicago this weekend. (Real productive right?) This means I have run out of musicals and need more. Any recommendations?

Re: Favorite musicals?

  • Not if it is musical or not but Burlesque was a great movie with lots of music.  I second a love for the classics though!

  • Shit I also watched Grease! How did I forget that! Lol, I don't know why I'm on this damn musical kick.
  • And I've seen most if not all the classics, they were staples growing up.
  • Rent is one of my all time favorites!

Wicked and In The Heights are my two absolute favorite musicals! Avenue Q is hilarious too.

EDIT: Crap, you meant the movie versions. Sadly there are no movies for the ones I mentioned. In that case, I'll get behind Rent, Hairspray, Sweeney Todd, and Les Mis.

  • Another vote for Rent! Also.. Hairspray is fun.

If you're into cheese (these definitely aren't legit "Musicals", but they're a guilty pleasure of mine..) The High School Musical movies on Disney are cute. I haven't seen Pitch Perfect, but lots of people say it's cute if you like the TV show "Glee".

PS. Don't tell anyone about that second part.. haha

  • A New Brain and Elegies by William Finn, Songs from a New World by Jason Robert Brown, Into the Woods (Sondheim), still love Les Mis after all these years...

I love almost all musicals to be honest.

Into the Woods!!! Oh wait...it's not out yet.

    Poo.
There is, however, a live stage recording that is pretty darn good.

If you are looking for stuff you can watch at home, I highly recommend the 2006 version of The Producers and the 2007 stage recording of Company (Sondheim) - recently both were on Netflix for instant watch.
  • Second Sweeney Todd. Also I love the French musical "Norte dame de Paris" you can watch it with sub titles. It's a recorded play.
