What do you consider diarrhea

Warning---do not eat chocolate pudding while reading this post!!

I know you are on the edge of your seat right now. Anyway, I ask because my boys are starting a day care in about a month, which is a totally new situation for us--we have had a nanny until now. Our boys have always had verrrry soft poops. Not liquid, but soft enough that it does smear from the back to the front, its sticky and is a mess. We aren't having blow outs, but sometimes its a little too close for comfort. Short of posting pictures (eww), just wondering if this is what normal poop for our age little ones. I have happy kiddos, but wondering if I should be treating this as a "problem" since they can't go to day care if they DO have diarrhea.

Re: What do you consider diarrhea

  • Diarrhea is really liquidy or watery and it definitely has a "diarrhea" smell. DS's stool has a lot of different, uh, consistencies that I consider to all be normal depending on what he eats.

  • Diarrhea is also determined by frequency. 3 x in three hours.
  • LO has tons of 'liquid' soft types of poop. Her day care sends them home after three incidences in one day. The teachers know the difference between LO having chili for lunch and diarrhea. Usually diarrhea has a yellow to green mucus likeness to it. It doesnt look like a liquid version of regular BMs
  • Thanks for the input. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one cleaning up some really messy diapers over here :)
