Shoes

Please recommend some starter walking shoes for those of us on a fixed income!  The Stride Rites and the Toms (or are they Bobs. I never remember) are way out of my budget, especially considering she will grow out of them in a matter of a couple of months.  Even on Amazon, they are $30+.  Is there anything else out there comparable, or am I going to have to start selling off my furniture to get shoes on my kid?  Help!

Re: Shoes

  • She's cruising right now, but she's getting braver about letting go. I just want to be prepared for the cooler weather. I'm thinking maybe Payless, yes?
  • Loading the player...
  • Target has shoes that look like the Stride Rite ones.  We just got back from there, and I bought a pair of Mary Janes.  Toddler shoes were 30% off and they had a really nice selection!

  • I've seen Stride Rite on Amazon for $16.
  • We bought new balanced tennis shoes from shoe carnival yesterday. Two pair for $40.

  • you want something with a split sole. Target has some for under $15. (we wear rileyroos, which you can also find on ebay/consignment.) IMO Stride Rite are not worth the money. There are better brands for that price (and they are ugly). We only have 2 shoes per size - a run around shoe, and a dress shoe.
  • I'm going to have to look for local consignment stores. I'm thinking target and Payless will be my friends till then.
  • Check out Ross and Marshall's. I've found knock off Robeez there that work well for D and they were $6!

  • Our local consignment stores have top brands at very good price. I third that suggestion! Charlottte's only truly new shoes are Stride Rites that my parents bought for her. The rest are consignment and garage sale shoes.
  • I got a pair of $5 Faded Glory sneakers from Walmart. She loves them and they are the only ones that stay on her feet. They're wicked easy to take on and off, too.

https://www.pediped.com/sale.aspx These are my faves. I know shoes are $$ but the good ones are worth it, IMO. I second @sharona1700 re: consignment. That will be your best bet.
I hate you for showing me this site. ;)

I lost one of her Stride Rite shoes today at Target parking lot.  Now, I can get a relacement.

  • I don't want to spend a fortune on shoes, either, but I totally got the side-eye at DC (even though he's cruising and not walking yet) when I dropped him off in socks. (For good reason, maybe... but seriously, if I make it out of the house in the morning wearing pants, it's practically a miracle. Choosing battles here.) So I kept an eye out on Zulily for shoes like Pedipeds every day and have ordered a few pairs from there. I just can't bring myself to spend $40-$50 for a pair of shoes there's no guarantee he'll fit in for more than a few weeks or that he'll keep on his feet, since he also loves to take off shoes anyway. So if you are a member of Zulily, you can mark those brand stores and they'll send you a little email alert when that one's coming back.

  • I was gonna suggest this.  We have Robeez and Pedipeds (Pedipeds were given to us) and the Target brands are a decent comparison. My gf got generic ones (genuine leather) on eBay for under $10 (albeit they're not as cute).  But you're right, for only a few months... not worth the splurge - if I could do it over again. He's walking fine with his Salt Waters, Converse, Toms etc so were able to get rid of the soft soles sooner than I thought.

You put socks on your kid? That's more than me! LO has been going to daycare barefoot for months now! We'll start socks/shoes again when it gets cold.

Bless you. I feel normal again. I mean, DC has got to realize that I often let him crawl around in just a cloth diaper at home... socks or shoes are, like, effort. :)

  • I found a pair that works! I found a brand new pair of Van's that someone bought my SS while he was a baby that were too small for him to ever wear! They have been perfect!
  • I found some at target for like $12. I know these are boy shoes, but I think they had girly ones too Osh kosh something or other I think. They are real similar to some pedipedz I bought.image
  • Consignment shops and Ebay! I got a pair of crocs, a pair of plain white stride whites, and another pair (pricey brand but can't think of the name at the moment) all for $20 all looked like they were brand new. I have also bought size 5 & 6 converses and another stride rite for half the price on Ebay. I bought her first pair of shoes full price at the stride rite store and seeing how she is almost out of those and barely wore them (even while walking) since June... I will never spend that money again!
