Are you potty training?

For the past couple of weeks DD has been asking to go potty.  Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't.  We haven't been really consistent with it at all.  It still seems early to me, but since she's actually telling us when she needs to go....I'm thinking it might be time.  Has anyone else started potty training?  Any suggestions on how we go about doing this?

We talk about poop/pee and he goes upstairs when I say we need to change his diaper but that's about it! I'm not ready for that yet!

    This is pretty much us.

  • I'd be ready if he was more ready. Right now, he just likes to lie to me about going (Did you go? No! Spoiler: he went). 18 months definitely isn't unheard of for a girl, though. My mom and I just had this conversation today and she was saying that I was potty trained during the day at 18 months and completely done with diapers by 20 months. I laughed out loud because the idea of my son being potty trained by that time is insane. He's a couple weeks away from 18 months and the only things that make it in the potty are his toy trains!

  • We haven't started yet but plan to this fall. DD is showing signs of being interested but we don't even have a potty chair yet. Plus we are on the road and very, very busy until the end of September. Not a good time to potty train.

  • Yeah, we're not ready for this either.  But I think my DD is starting to potty train herself.  She's been going poo in the potty about 50% of the time (she tells us, then we run her to the bathroom), and now she's starting to tell us before she goes pee.  We don't have a potty chair yet either, so I guess we'll be investing in one this weekend.

  • We have been dabbling with potty training. We got her potty when she was 12 months just to have it around and have her get used to it. However, she decided to start using it. Now a days she uses it through the day while we are home. Some days are better than others. Most days we don't have to use diapers except for when we leave the house. If there's an accident I don't get mad or punish or anything like that. We are just gradually getting to her being completely potty trained.

  • Good for her! Smart girl. :) We are not really potty training yet. I'm ready! But DS isn't. When he's obviously pooping I ask, "Are you pooping?" and I give him diaper free time outside, during which he usually pees so I tell him he's peeing. We have a potty in the bathroom downstairs but he's not too interested in it. He doesn't seem to recognize the urge to go yet, or at least he doesn't indicate to me he needs to go. Soon I hope!
  • If she's showing those signs, there's nothing wrong with giving it a try! If it doesn't work out, you can try again later. We haven't started yet but she just turned 17 months. DS trained quickly at 2.5 because he was really ready so I'll go by her cues, but I'd be happy if she wanted to train around 2! Right now she may go at home if she was diaper-less but I'm not sure she could tell me if she had to go if we were out in public.
