Can't sleep!

I just hit the 37 week mark and the nights are no longer my friend! For the past few weeks I can't sleep through a night to save my life. I sleep with a pillow between my legs to try and ease the back pain but I still can't seem to get comfortable. I'm completely exhausted and it's starting to show, my doctor told me today I needed to take a vacation. What kinds of things do you ladies do to help you ease the restless nights?

  • My doctor suggested a wedge pillow so I can sleep on my back.  She said sleeping on my back was fine so long as I was not flat on my back.  It works for me half the night, then I wake up and swap to the snuggle and sleep on my side.  I was getting back and shoulder problems when I slept on my side all night.  Some people also suggested sleeping in the recliner so you can sleep on your back, but I don't have a recliner so I have not tried it.
    Also, you may want to try a prenatal massage or yoga to get your back to relax.

  • Try sleeping on a couch. Sometimes that helps me. I think end of pregnancy insomnia is pretty normal, so just trying to have a calm bedtime routine and some supplies for if you wake up could help. For example, get a "sleepy music CD" or download a relaxation/meditation app on your smart phone.

  • Hot baths, back rubs, unisom...but it's just your bodies way of getting you ready for a kid to be up all night.

    Oh my, some of you get to sleep thru a night previous to that? or even half a night??? You are so lucky! I wake up every hour on the hour. But then, I have never been a good sleeper I suppose. But yes, every hour to go pee. Ugh. And just lately, once I hit the 530 or 6 o'clock hour, I am awake from then on. 
    Sorry, I have no suggestions, but I just had to point out you are lucky if you get half a night through without waking at least and I envy you. :) I hope you start to sleep better though!!

  • doctor told me to take Unisom. i use a generic brand and take it about 30 min before im ready to go to bed, helps me sleep A LOT better!! i still get up to potty once or twice a night but i feel rested in the morning. hope this helps!
  • When you wake up uncomfortable on one side, switch to the other. That is what I have been doing for a while now. Try anything... sleep with a fan on, get up and walk for a second, get more back support for your bed... Sleeping just gets painful and difficult the further along you get...you just have to get through it.

  • I tried Unisom with #4 and it made me wired so I got no sleep. Interrupted sleep is what you'll be getting with a newborn & on so just get used to it.
