T&Ps please - Updated

I'm having a D&C this morning to remove possible retained placenta. It's been a ridiculous 3+ weeks to get here and likely caused permanent damage to my milk supply and ability to EBF :(. I'm scared, frustrated, and sad to be away from my babies for most of the day. T&Ps are much appreciated. Done and easier than anticipated. MFM was incredibly apologetic about the retained tissue and I'm home and snuggling my sweeties now :). Thanks for the T&Ps!

  • Oh honey, I am so sorry that it's been such a rough road for you. Hopefully this is the last speed bump and it will all be just you and your happy, healthy, beautiful babies from here on out. As far as your milk supply goes my babies and I had a very traumatic birth experience and were not really able to start focusing on breastfeeding until about 6 weeks and with the help of some fabulous lactation consultants my babies just turned one on Monday and I am still breastfeeding them! I hope everything works out the way you want it to. **HUGS**

  • I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.  That happened to me, too.  They did a manual placenta removal after my delivery, but they missed a little piece.  I hemorrhaged 3 weeks later and had to have an emergency D&C along with 3 more nights in the hospital.  I wasn't able to produce much BM after that.

I hope you're resting well and you get your supply back up quickly!!  PM  me if you have any questions about my experience. <3

  • @legallyblonde217 - that sounds horrible! I'm hoping that getting rid of the residual tissue will boost milk supply due to the decrease in progesterone. Why weren't you able to produce milk afterwards? Too much trauma and time away from your babes?

It was such a nightmare. :(  My OB said most likely that due to the large amount of blood I lost during the hemorrhage, my body probably focused on healing from that and just gave up on the milk production.  I lost enough blood during delivery to need 2 units of blood that afternoon.  Then after the postpartum hemorrhage, I had to get another 4 units of blood.  So I was in pretty bad shape for about 6 weeks after I delivered.  But we're all good now, which is what matters the most!

I really hope you're doing well!
