BTDT Episiotomy

Just a general question. I had to have a medio-lateral episiotomy during delivery, plus a 2nd degree tear. For those ladies who have had tears or episiotomies previously, how long did it take to heal? to stop aching? to feel like your lady buts are back to "normal"? or other advise regarding the discomfort?

As a disclaimer, I know it was only a little over a week ago and I probably still have a while before its all healed and what not. I was just curious.

A couple weeks before it was more tolerable. We were back to DTD at 4 weeks.

I had third degree rectal tearing and episiotomy, I felt halfway to normal one week later and completely better 2 weeks later. I hope you feel better very soon!

I had an episiotomy and a tear. I'm pretty sure it was a couple weeks before I started to feel better. I remember icing quite a bit. Hope everything heals quickly for you!

Took me a couple weeks to heal and feel back to normal. After that, the scar area was sensitive during sex as well, at least for me.

I had very little trouble with my episiotomy except for a bit of the stitch that dislodged and was poking into me about 8 days pp. I had that pulled and literally didn't notice anything going on down there afterwards.

Honestly, it took me until my 6 wk pp appt before I truly felt better. Turns out my stitches didn't fall out and had to be removed at that appt. So once that was done, it was a whirlwind of difference. I'm sure it wouldn't have been nearly that bad if they'd fallen out on their own. Really dreading it with #2 if stitches are needed .

I had a partial 3rd degree tear, no episiotomy. I felt better enough to not be bothered much in a couple weeks, but hadn't fully healed or stopped bleeding from the tear by my 6 week appointment. Doctor used some silver nitrate on the tear and it was then healed in a few days. Sex still hurt for a few months.

But everyone heals differently. I know a lot of people who healed much more quickly than I did!

Have you tried soaking in a warm tub with Epsom salts? I found that really helped me feel better.

I tore and needed stitches but all my doctor said was it wasn't "too bad". It was at least a few weeks before I wasn't terribly uncomfortable and if I didn't soak in the tub every night for the first few weeks I felt it. I think I was back to feeling "normal" by my 6 week check. I don't think I was stitched up very good or had a decent amount of scar tissue because sex was still painful a year later. Of course the doctors remedy for that was more sex and massaging the area, Haha.

I was extremely sore for the first few days and it gradually decreased. I was wondering this because I am A LOT more sore and hurt more today than the last couple days combined. I was concerned that I may have popped a stitch but I am not sure how to tell.

I had 4th degree tear and an episiotomy. I think I started feeling better after a week or two. My doc said I probably wasn't in as much pain as a second degree tear because of nerve damage. I did have some skin grow over a stitch and had to have it removed at 3 weeks. We waited until 10 weeks to DTD just because I was too nervous to do it any earlier.

I had been feeling better and stopped doing my tub soaks and using the witch hazel pads I was sent home with after about a week. Then I started to get really sore again. I called my OB because I was worried about an infection or a popped stitch and they just recommended that I try to soak in the tub a few times a day and to continue to use the witch hazel and if it didn't get better in a day or two to call back and then they would see me. That seemed to help and after a few weeks of continuing that I was much better. So I would recommend trying to soak a few times a day and using witch hazel pads. If that doesn't help or you are really in pain I wouldn't hesitate to call your OB or midwife.

When my stitch was sticking out, my husband could see it... Maybe ask yor to look?

That sounds amazing since my Dermoplast spray seems to not work so well. It take the sting away slightly but not extremely helpful. Do you know if you can buy it in store or just online?

I had an epesiotomy and a year with dd1. It took a few months before I could comfortably sit on a hard chair, and it wasn't until dd2 was 6 weeks old that I had pain free sex.

I haven't had my baby, just commenting to say, I bought this spray and the balm, the spray is going with me to the hospital! Hopefully it speeds things along! Look on amazon, because it seems to be a little cheaper there!
