I just picked one of these up at BBB today. I admit, i've been side-eyeing it for a while. Meanwhile, my kids think it is hilarious. The reviews seem pretty awesome and I hate using the aspirator so I will give it a whirl. Have any of you tried it?
WE got it. It works great. The only problem I have is that after a year old, neither of my kids will let me use any aspirator anymore. They end up crying so much they replace all their snot immediately.

We love it. It works so much better than the bulb. It also was incentive for my daufhter to learn to blow her own nose. "If you don't blow, we will have to get out the nosesucker... " she is an expert now.
I got TWO of them at my first shower. I admit I am squicked out, but to be fair the tube is really long and there is a filter there to block the end so nothing can actually get to your mouth.
I bought one this past weekend from BBB. My friend swears by it and the reviews on Amazon sold me. It does give me the eebeegeebies to think about the logistics of it though, even though I know the snot isn't going anywhere near me!
Guess i'll be keeping it with all of these positive reviews. I hate the bulb aspirators they give at the hospital, I always felt like they were too big for my LOs nostrils. The whole "sucking the snot out" definitely weirds me out a little, but there's nothing worse than a baby who's congested and upset.
I was stranded in the middle of a civilized land with only public library internet access fora few months. I had to thumb wrestle a grizzly bear blindfolded to get hooked up, but we're finally back online. ^:)^
We love ours! The snot stays in the bulb and gets no where near the long tube or your mouth. The bulb from the hospital was so harsh on DDs sinuses. The snot sucker works so much better.
We have one and it's amazing. The snot doesn't come anywhere close to your mouth. In fact, I've never had it come anywhere close to the tube. It all stays very low to the bottom. You wash it buy taking the cap that holds the tube on off and cleaning it out. It's brilliant and it's the only thing that has worked for us.

What about the moisture in the air you are sucking?? I understand the snot doesn't get past the filter, but you have snotty booger air that you are sucking into your mouth right??? I can't. I just can't.

lol. This reminds me of someone I knew in college who was really, truly terrified of farts because he thought that smelling farts meant you were inhaling microscopic amounts of feces..or as he said, "poo particles."
I have dealt with far more disgusting things in my short career as a mother than snotty booger air. (no snark, I thought it was cute)
Haha I know we will deal with a lot of nasty things that just come with the territory. I'm a nurse and I have no problem saying that some things just truly gross me out. I can handle poop, vomit, blood, etc. all day long but there is just something about mucus that really makes me nauseous. Hopefully I can overcome this quickly because I'm sure I will see a lot of it in the near future!
it's an amazing device..works a billion times better than the bulb. yes, a billion. i'm not joking.
but what works even better is when you take it apart and use just the bottom tube..so you're 4 inches away from the snot, and no filter. yes, it's gross, but if it comes down to your baby being comfortable, it's worth the sacrifice. plus, it's never even gotten close to my mouth, even with my modified version.
Best invention ever! Don't even waste your time on the bulb syringes which often times grow mold inside them. Have you ever cut one open after using it for awhile? GROSS, not to mention dangerous. Who wants that mold around? "The snot sucker" as we call it works wonders. Trust me when your kid is so congested and can't sleep and no one sleeps if they can't sleep, you will do anything even sucking snot up a tube with your mouth. It doesn't come anywhere near your mouth though so no worries.

I wonder if you could take this thing apart and attach a bulb syringe or regular syringe to the end of it instead of your mouth for suction. Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?

no. the syringe is nowhere near as powerful as your mouth. your mouth can offer "continuous suction" for extra long snot, too, whereas the bulb you're limited to how much air you can squeeze out of it.

Adding another rave review. The bulb never worked well for us, but on a whim I tried this thing, and was kinda grossed out at how much it got out of my son's nose when he was stuffed up. Which is a weird way to say that it works. The snot never got anywhere near my mouth. I also like that you can clean it out completely.
He didn't like it, but it was quick (and he didn't like the bulbs either). My brother's kids think it's funny and they say it tickles.
maaaaybe? it's hardly worth the effort. it really doesn't even get close to your mouth. the tube is maybe 18" long AFTER the filter...and the snot doesn't even come close to hitting the filter.

OTOH, the same company makes a product called the "windi," which I have no interest in trying.
:-O
^:)^
The snot never gets up into the hose. I just take the tube off the end and throw it in the basket in my dishwasher.
