Remedies for Constipation?

I'm looking for the remedies for once you already have it (not preventive stuff like 'eat more fiber').

  • I got it a lot from medication I was on. Best remedy I found was prunes. No lie! Better than medicines most of the time.

    *lurking* prune juice. I lived on the stuff for my last pregnancy.

    Good point. I think I have some of those sunsweet ones.
  • Prune juice was TOO effective for me. :| 1 dried prune a day kept my insides happy.

  • Last night I had some dried mango and let's just said it did the trick for real!  I just had some dried apricots and they seem to be doing the trick as well.  Dried fruit rules!

  • Aso for me when I'm pregnant I often feel constipated even though I'm not,because my bowls are moving so slowly.

  • My OB said docusate, fiber bars, and if it's super bad to try some Miralax.  Good luck to you, constipation is horrible!

  • I swear by apple cider vinegar before bed. It keeps me regular and helps my skin (pre-pregnancy too) Mix 1 oz. with a few oz. water, dash of cinnamon, splash of vanilla, and ice. Yumm, almost like a cocktail!
  • Coffee works for me. I also have a juicer so I make some extra green juice.
    Taking colace every day can help prevent that and it is pregnancy safe. It's probably your pnv that is giving you trouble.

  • Konsyl Psyllium supplement, add it to your food, shakes, drinks, etc... And a lot of water!
  • Also colace is good once in awhile together with fiber and water but I wouldn't become dependant on colace.

    Taking a warm bath at night. It loosens everything up, that's why kids poop in the bathtub, tmi?

  • I have started using Miralax, recommended by my midwife because NOTHING has worked.  Prunes, coffee, water, walking, fiber...all fails!...I have tired everything!
  • I'm pretty stopped up myself but the thought of prunes makes my stomach flip. :(
  • So what has helped for me is increasing my daily fiber to 50+ grams and drinking prune juice. Berries (any), sweet potatoes with skins, green beans, apples with skins, whole grain pitas, zucchini, squash, basically fruits and vegetables and whole grains have gotten things moving again for me!
