DH is NOT good at...

Funny story about my husband NOT being a car mechanic. He had taken his van in to a mechanic this morning, got the oil and filter changed, got the air filter changed, got the tires rotated, had the brakes checked. He was feeling pretty good about it all, and happy that it didn't cost much. He said he'd call again this evening when the kids are in bed (he's out of town until Friday).

I got a call at 1:30 that he needed a mechanic number for a different town, because his key wouldn't work. After going through some trouble and phone calls, it turned out to be user error. The key wasn't turning, so he had tried to wiggle the steering wheel, which usually works. But this time, the wheel wouldn't move. Mechanic showed up, used some muscle, got the wheel to move, and there you have it, the key works fine.

So, what is it your husband can't do? Mine: anything fixing/building/repairing, especially home improvement (who can't put up a shelf???) and cars.

I think I watch too much Maury Povich. I read this title as "DH is NOT the father!" And so I opened it expecting a juicy story, lol!

But to answer your actual post - my DH is pretty handy with lots of things. I would say the one thing he can't do is half-ass things. What I mean is that everything he does, he has to spend hours and hours on, making it PERFECT. If we get a new shelf for a room, he will spend weeks researching online to find just the right shelf and then hours installing it. It's good for some things, but other things it drives me nuts! Just get it done already!

That's funny! My H is terrible at yard work... Because he has really serious fears of spiders, snakes, and flying insects. Poor thing looks like he's a Fear Factor contestant every time he goes out there

My DH is not handy and he doesn't want to be! He jokes around saying I married the wrong brother, because we always have to call BIL to fix things around the house. I'd love it'll it was handy with tools and could build stuff! He's pretty good with everything else, besides like cooking and cleaning.

THIS! He drives me nuts, he's good at everything! He doesn't take an overly long time to get things done, but he is a perfectionist! Here's one, he's not good at telling my daughter no! And he's not good at seeing the bottom shelf of the fridge (he's 6'11). And he's not good at keeping his temper. Do any of these apply?!?

Ha - I'm glad to see so many non-handy DHs out there. DH *thinks* he's handy, but he's the king of half-ass when it comes to home projects / assembling anything (i.e. the time he tried to assemble our IKEA TV stand and one of the big pieces was facing the wrong way so that the finish didn't match (i.e. unfinished wood vs. DARK stain) and he tried to tell me it was okay to leave it that way).

So, I do all handyman things around the house (assembling furniture, fixing the toilet, fixing the light switch etc. etc. etc.), and I make sure to involve my LO with all of my little projects so that he learns this stuff and doesn't take after his father in this area

I'm lucky, there's not much my dearest can't do when he puts his mind to it - EXCEPT he is not the greatest cleaner! He does a 'fast' clean and doesn't get the gunk and grime. He can tidy up but I don't feel like it's necessarily clean when he is done. That's my one complaint.

Making decisions. He's very handy around the house, even tackling some good sized home repair projects. He can cook and clean, as well as maintain and repair cars. He just can't make a decision to save his life. As I make quick decisions easily, I find this frustrating to the Nth degree.

DH is only handy with a paint brush...outside of that, anything we need fixed/changed/done around the house is either my duty or I'm calling someone. He's put together a few shelves/dressers and inevitably has to take them apart and put them back together multiple times (refusing to let me help...ha). If we were within distance, I'd be calling my dad over for minor fixes [and DH is completely secure with that, even suggesting that's why he doesn't have to learn, because my dad can handle it, cracks me up].

I don't mind- at least if we have house projects in the future, we'll hire someone and get it done right away rather than the, "when I get to it," that my dad pulls with every project around their house (and other handy-men I know).

My husband is pretty handy around the house, can work on his car, etc, but he's not allowed in the kitchen. He asked me how to make Kraft Mac & Cheese once when I was sick and couldn't cook.

I'm working on a stock pile of frozen individual sized meals for later in the pregnancy/after baby gets here so I don't have to cook. I love my foodsaver to suck the air out of baggies with food in them...makes everything last so much longer in the chest freezer.
