Baby Names

Nora/Norah Questions

1) Do you think Nora can be used to honor an Eleanor? My great-grandma's name was Eleanor, I've always wanted to use her name as a middle name but now I kind of like Nora as a remembrance of her. 2) Do you prefer the spelling Nora or Norah? Is one more "correct" than the other? 3) Any ideas for middle names? I can only think of Nora Jane, Nora June and Nora Joy.

Re: Nora/Norah Questions

  • I love Nora (spelled without the h) and think that would be a beautiful tribute to your great-gma.  Are you stuck on J for a middle name?  If so, how about Jillian (I do really like Jane or June though)?  If you're not stuck on a J, how about Elise, Blythe, or Adele?

  • I love Nora!  I like the spelling Nora but I don't think either is wrong, per say.  I was planning to use Nora to honor both of my grandmas: Eleanor and Norma if this baby was a girl. I think it is an honor to the name Eleanor but in a more subtle way.

I was actually really really looking forward to being able to do that, but we have another boy on the way.

That is so funny, I didn't even realize those are all J names! We're open to any letter, love Blythe!

  • I like the H spelling, only because I'm a Norah Jones fan though. Norah is on my girl list, but I don't know if I'll use the H or not personally.

  • Since Nora is a legitimate NN for Eleanor, I think it works (you could also name her Eleanor and call her Nora; that way you use your grandmother's full name). Eleanor also might help narrow down MNs? Either spelling is correct. I like it without the H better, but I don't know why. Neither spelling looks odd to me.

That is so neat, my grandma, Eleanor's daughter, is Norma! I never thought of it being similar to that name too.

  • Nora/h is a legitimate nn for Eleanor. I like the spelling Norah personally. The H completes the name for me.

    Norah Anne
Norah Jane (I really like this one)
    Norah Leanne
    Norah Adelaide
    Norah Elisabeth
    Norah Alyssa

  • I like the H (see siggy). It looks more "rounded" that way too me. It's also not as common which I like. I was going with Norah Claire but went with Blanche to honor my grandmother. Having a family name in the mn spot is so special and I'm glad we did.

  • Yes it's a nice tibute, I like it Norah w. the "h" but my spell check says Nora is the more common version and I like June as a middle name
