Anyone else having this potty training problem?

My 3yo is slowly adapting to potty training. We're at the point where he's wearing underwear during the day and is able to say a few times when he has to pee. But for whatever reason, will NOT poop on the pot. He'll go into the bathroom, but will not follow through. He'll stand next to the toilet and poo. This is super frustrating! I'm not sure what to do.

    Do you have a stool for him to rest his feet on? I've known kids that won't poop on the toilet if their feet are dangling.

    Other than that, it will come in time.

    no solution for you but I wanted to tell you that I feel your pain.
    My DS1 (3 1/2) only poops during the night in his sleep. He NEVER goes during the day, he'd have to seriously be sick. He's otherwise doing great with potty training but I have no clue what I'm going to do about his pooping issue. We've tried having him sit on the potty with a book, bribing him with toys etc... he just can never/won't ever go. And what makes it worse in my mind is that he doesn't complain or care..  it would be one thing if he was expressing a need to go during the day but he shows no signs of needing to whatsoever. And it's like clockwork..... every. single. night. We  are so sick of waking up to a very stinky upstairs and having to change him out of a dirty diaper. UGH!

    One method suggests getting a stick and painting it and decorating it. Put it outside, ring the doorbell and say his favorite character dropped it off to help him go poop in the potty and not be scared anymore. Then have him hold it while he does his business

    DD waits til we put her naptime diaper on her, then plays in her room and waits around for the poop to come. So we have to go change her, then she plays more, and pretty often lately decides not to take a nap at all after that. So it's really messing things up for us, and I have no idea how to get around it. She refuses to sit on the potty when she needs to poop.
