Time off for Cerclage

I'm sorry if this has been asked, I did a search but I didn't see anything.  My cerclage is scheduled for next month, I'll be about 14 weeks.  Assuming there are no major complications, am I correct that I will be able to go to work the next day (I have a desk job if that matters)?  My appointment is at 10am.  I forgot to ask my doctor.  Thanks ladies!

Re: Time off for Cerclage

  • I guess it depends on the dr, but I wouldn't think so. I know a lot of women that have had a preventative cerclage and they were out for about a week on at least light bed rest.

Wow, thanks.  I'll double check with my doctor to be sure.

  • I don't know if out for a week but I would give yourself 48 hours post cerclage to recover.
  • I have myself 48hrs and took it light for a wk. complication with cerclage procedure is minimum but they make sure to tell you possible membrane rupture or infection. Just like any other procedure there are risk but the benefits out beat the risk so don't worry:) good luck with her cerclage its a life savor. Literally

I was never released to go back to work after mine. :(. I've been on modified bed rest since it was put in. Best of luck to you, and I'd allow at least 48 hours, giving your body time to adjust and heal.

  • Thanks all, I called my doctor and they recommended a few days.  My surgery is on a Thursday so I am taking off Friday as well, and then I have the weekend off.  Should be enough time if all goes well.
