Twirling hands and feet

So my son has been twirling his hands And feet like he's conducting music for quite some time now. I've just recently become concerned about it though and looked on google and found that could be An early sign of autism and I'm freaked out now. We have his 6 month checkup Friday so I'll definitely be asking the doctor, but do Any of you have this going on as well?

  • Yup Ash twirls his hands all the time when holding something. I wouldn't be too concerned about it if he is meeti g other milestones like smiling, talking, etc...

  • LO does this a bit. I'm not worried bc around 5 months she was doing crazy arm flapping which google said was a sign of autism. Now she has stopped doing this and I realize it was just a baby learning how to work their limbs. Soon enough they will move onto learning something new.

  • I appreciate the replies and I'm glad to see some other babies doing this as well. He's been meeting all milestones without a problem so I know I really shouldn't be too worried, but I think we all know how easily google can freak a mom out!

  • DH does this, and has done it for all of his 30 years of life; he is not autistic. Unless other markers show up, I wouldn't worry.

As a child psychologist, I agree with all of this. I joke that all babies are autistic with their mannerisms and they grow out of it. If you are concerned about socializing, such as smiling, laughing, and cooing then that would be better indicators at this age. I have autism in the family and am always searching for signs, but honestly it's way too young to be worried.
