Babies on the Brain

Summer 2014 baby #3 but alittle nervous

Hi my name is Rebecca and I had my 2nd daughter alittle over a year ago and had a undetected placenta accreta. After I delivered her I hemorrhaged out and then had to get an emergency D&C along with a blood transfusion of 2 pints of blood. To only find out i had to go for another 2 D&C cause there was still more placenta stuck in my uterus. I'm only 23 years old and health as can be, both of my daughters births were vaginal, and I never had a surgery (until now with all these D & C) or dont smoke or do drugs and drink a drink maybe once a month now that im a mom. My husband and I would like to try to have another child but I'm nervous because i know my chances for this to happan again or miscarriage are higher the next pregnancy.  I just want to know what will happen the next time I get pregnant?  Im currently on the Mirena but not sure when we should get it removed? We would love to get pregnant around aug or sept 2014. I didnt know if the placenta accreta causes fertility problems? Is there anything I should be doing now to get pregnant in the next year?   I know theres ultrasounds and things I have to go through before we try to get pregnant. Has anyone else gone through this and can help? I'm just so nervous and would like to know what I'm in for with the next one! Thank you!

  • I had placenta previa & abrupta and I know I am 10x more likely to have it again with a subsequent pregnancy.  That is different that what you had but I think for the most part, if you have issues such as these, you are more apt to have them again.  Your best bet is to talk to your doctor, as they are the only ones who can answer these questions that pertain to your specific case.  Pretty sure you can conceive as soon as mirena comes out.  Call the doc and good luck!

  • This sounds like something that you should discuss with your doctor. She/He will be able to give you more evidence-based answers rather than what a handful of people experienced. I'm sorry that you had to go through so many surgeries and really hope that it won't happen again. You might get false hope or nightmare stories on the internet.
  • Thank you everyone so much on your feedback! I of course am going to ask all these questions and more with my dr., I was just curious to see if anyone else had similar experience past or present. It was pretty scary what we went through though I know it could have been a lot worse. I just don't want the next time we get pregnant to be the what could have been worse.
