UPDATE T&P request (NBR)

Hey ladies, thought I'd put this out there since it can't possible hurt. My Dad works for one of the big international diamond drilling companies as a network specialist (computer guy). Every time the price of gold goes down they have to lay off a lot of staff until drilling picks up again, so were used to big lay off cycles every 5 years or so (he's been working there for over 18 years and has always made it through without getting laid off). However, with the economy being as crappy as it has been for a while now, this is probably the worst we've ever seen it. They're already down to bare bones minimum staff and they're laying off another 1000 globally today. This is the first time if actually been genuinely worried for my dad about his job. They've asked him to drive to one of their offices down south today (3-4 hours away) which could mean they're letting his helper go, or it could be bad news. My dad as at that age (mid 50s) where he's too young to be offered a retirement package, but old enough that he'd likely have a really hard time finding work if they let him go. Please send t&ps that he makes it through with his job intact. *UPDATE* Just got a text from my dad that he made it through the day with his job still for now. His helper was indeed laid off though. Thanks for keeping my family in you t&ps lately. Hopefully that's it for lay offs.

Lots of T&Ps for your dad today! My dad just went through a similar thing (at the company for 30 years and they let him go). I pray your dad gets much better news! Let us know how it goes.

Thinking of your family, MM. My BIL was in line for partnership with his firm when he was laid off a couple of years ago ( mid 40's), and I can imagine how scary that is when you have dedicated so many years. He is doing very well with a smaller firm now. ((hugs))

My FIL got laid off around that age, it's tough and he never really found a good job after that, just sort of pieced together small gigs and bided his time until he could retire.
